I would let the game warden decide what to do with them. You have to realize, some kids have no direction in life. A little scare could go a long way We did just that

The bigger problem with these situations is the safety factor. How do they know that the land owner wasn't sitting on ground hunting the same area when they shot. Yeah dad was down there coyote hunting when this all went down. They shot the deer about 40 yards from my stand

I would've prosecuted. The boys knew they were wrong, no hunting license, no orange. Should've prosecuted obviously the dad isnt going to punish them if he was arguing. These boys will be back on your property or some one else's soon poaching.
Y'all ever got pulled over for speeding and given a warning? How long did it take for you to start speeding again? I know for me it's was soon as I get out of the cops view. Kids don't learn from warnings They want be back promise you that. We are friends with the land owner they were supposed to be on. Said know one but us will be allowed on his property now

Since they seemed visibly scared, I might let up a little with the prosecution if they were repentant of their actions. If they seemed defiant, well they would get it.

Not being a landowner, I guess I am a little confused. What more could he "prosecute" them for that is not already captured in the tickets they received? Trespassing? The killing of the deer? Can you be charged for hunting illegally and successfully hunting illegally? The hunting without permission is the one that really hurts these days from what little I know.

Imo there's a difference in 15-16 yr old kids crossing the line hunting and an adult.
I didn't know where OUR property lines were completely when I was that age.
I give kids a pass especially their first time.

Was the deer shot on your property?
Not sure I understand either.
So you did not go forward with any of the charges of trespassing or hunting without permission, and poaching (if deer was killed on your land)?
I wasn't there, but feel you may made a mistake for not pressing charges. Boys knew what they were doing. Wasn't there a fence or painted land line they had to cross?
