Please take a long hard look at giving everyone in the state a reasonable chance at hunting the rut. I live and hunt in south Marshall county and our deer are not chasing yet. It should happen next week. I am also in a club on the Blount, Saint Clair county line and these deer are just getting started. Young bucks are starting to harass does and again, next week would like be amazing.

You've finally given extreme south AL a chance to hunt their rut, please consider giving those of us in north AL that hunt early February rutting deer the same opportunity.

Thanks,
Brad Biddle

I have often wondered why the season didn't start a couple weeks later and go for two or three weeks longer into FEB.

Regarding BOW SEASON! If the season did just shift two weeks later (which I'm not suggesting) it would have no effect on bow season. Starting 2 weeks later is still starting fresh just 2 weeks later.

Fur get with nighthunter on here and get a fetal study done so you can find out when your does are actually bred. He's is planning on doing one this spring on our land and were can't wait to find out the true rut timing on our place.

Break the season up to take pressure off the deer. That would make a HUGE difference almost immediately.

I've seen rutting activity the past couple of weekends in Greene County, but it's the second rut.

They lose 2 weeks of bow only before gun hunting starts. The extra 2 weeks in the south zone for bowhunters is in early December which a lot of guys feel is a dead time. I'm just pointing it out. I personally don't care if they extend it but a lot of guys would rather hunt dropping acorns in October than dead time in December. It's been rocking in my part of Marshall for last week. I dunno what early Feb would do. May ride through state park next week to see if I see any chasing.

Yes, you are correct!! But the foodplot hunters don't know what hunting a hot oak tree is, so it does not matter to them they are just wasting time for gun season.

Who is limiting the days, anyway, and why? Just run the season October 15 -Feb 15, and vary the equipment, and roll. It ain't like there's some migratory federal framework of only 'x' days.

Bow, gun, spear bring it all in and close it all at same time. Use what you want to hunt with for deer. Pressure is pressure if you in woods you putting pressure on deer. Make it fair for everyone. I know a few people that don't care to bow hunt. I can see what they are saying now. South Alabama December 1 to March 1. Above highway 80 North November 1 to February 15. Clubs decide weapon choice public land any weapon. Limit on deer on public land 1 doe 1 buck per person per year. Private lease land shoot what you want unless you are near public land. Within half mile public land 1 buck 1 doe per person a season. Corn people using corn to draw deer off public land. Need a control for that now!
As deer increase in area increase limits public or private decrease as needed.

This is a good idee for north Alabama, imo.
