Oh no!!! Don't you dare bring up ethics or sportsmanship on this website! You will be tarred and feathered and run completely out of the state! Those are forbidden, dirty words here, sadly.

Word up bro!! We should teach the kids how to shoot them the old fashion way...with a musket and a hound!! Hip hip cheerio!!! So long to the old fashion way of getting out there and busting your tail scouting and finding deer the right way and learning to hunt, there won't even be any need to buy tree stands any more just get you a lawn chair and sit in some bushes just any where you choose and put some corn out and wait, I think its gonna take the sport out of it and will ruin everything we've been taught about hunting ethically back when we were kids,it will definitely take the hunting out of it, a lot of kids will never learn the value of hunting and respect it by hunting over a pile of corn

Those jokers are hard to kill even with a corn pile. I'm gonna be pissed if our deer hunting ends up being like Kentucky, Kansas, or Texas where baiting is legal. They never kill big bucks in those states.

I can't wait to see some of the rules clubs put out. You get a lease with 30 people on 3000 acres and try to figure out who can hunt where because of who put bait out where???????
It's going to be fun. I know if I spent 200 dollars on corn, and another $80 on gas keeping a place fed for my Saturday off, and somebody came in on a weekday while I was at work and shot a deer on it, I wouldn't be thrilled about the mooching. It's going to be interesting.

Having second thoughts now? By the way, I actually spoke with a hunter that was using a spear this year! It is legal in case you haven't read the regs.

I think the first wayward step made toward the issue of hunting over bait was ever allowing corn to be out during the season at all. Allowing it to be on the ground during season, 100 yds and out of sight is ridiculous. At that point it might as well be legal to hunt over. You can't have a game warden monitoring every corn pile and feeder in the entire state. Most if not all folks were hunting over corn even before the rule was put into place. The ruling today to allow hunting over corn was definitely made in favor of the "if you can't beat 'em join 'em" crowd.

Legalize it and be done with it.

Too many folks think is this the silver bullet. Pour out some corn and that Booner is gonna run you over to get to it. Supplemental feeding/baiting/whatever you want to call it will not make up for hunting pressure, poor habitat, and the likes.
I'm of the camp either make it 100% legal or 100% illegal. No distance, sightline restriction crap.

The deer are already being fed at an alarming rate. I would rather they legalize it instead of putting the law abiding hunters at a disadvantage for trying to do the right thing while all the neighbors are feeding corn. Anything is better than the ambiguous "judgment call" rules we have now.

It does not have to be this complicated. If corn is bad for the deer herd then outright ban any form of feeding wildlife year round. But if we are going to let people feed all day 100 yards away then hell, just go ahead and legalize it.

I'm not trying to argue, just trying to understand your thoughts.

I was taught to hunt them by cutting off all escape routes with hunters and then turning loose packs of dogs to run them over you. Then I was taught to find sign and climb a tree and wait on them to come back. Then I was taught to hunt over a feeder in Texas Then I was taught to plant a food plot and wait on them to come to you. Then I was taught to walk cutovers and throw rocks into ditches and draws to jump shoot them (or clap ) I killed deer doing each of them. What I learned most is that I enjoy being in the woods and I don't need the guvment or another man to tell me "how" to kill one.

I'm not trying to argue, just trying to understand your thoughts. Somebody worked to build that shooting house and plant that plot. My teenage son has always helped us in those endeavors and understands that there is work that goes into hunting. I hope he never, ever thinks that pouring out a bag of corn and sitting on it the next day is the way to hunt.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

If game wardens had the ability to enforce the baiting laws I would be all about keeping corn banned. But if you can't enforce it, legalize it and let people make their own decisions about how they want to hunt. States all over the nation are allowing it and it is not hurting their herds one bit. As most of us have already said, hunting over corn is not magically going to make you start killing monsters. The big bucks are still going to be there for the hunters willing to put in the work to find where they are.

I think that hunting over corn is the least of worries for some parts of Alabama. The decrease in deer numbers should be a much higher priority for the DCNR. When the state gave every yahoo with a gun the opportunity to kill a deer every single day of deer season, having a game warden enforce corn laws became a mute point.
I don't really care if it's legal or not, the only worry I have is that some of the white collar weekend warriors, and blood thirsty old school hunters that just want to shoot something, are going to have an easier way to do it now.

Baiting will get some hunters out of your guys way. Should be pretty easy to kill 3 young bucks and sit at home. I hunted Michigan for 5 years and baiting was allowed. Carrots, apples or sugar beats were sold by the truck load. State land, which is what 99% of the people hunted was loaded with bait piles. There were zero policy on amount of bait they could use. I hunted bait piles, did some map studies and killed deer on their travel routes without having to buy feed... Last I heard, Michigan was basically running a no more than a 5 gallon bucket of fed on the ground at any given time. I think it was cwd related.
