Been thinking about selling my jeep and getting a truck but have some of ya'll seen what the wore out 15-20 year old trucks with 250,000+ miles on them are bringing. I saw one sell tonight for 4,000 with 317,000 miles on it

We will burn that bridge when we get there

It's all driven by the new prices. The good used ones with only 40,000 miles are still over $30k, especially for 4x4 and crew cab.

New vehicle sales & Barrett Jackson jacked up used vehicle prices, especially vintage rides. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for my next used truck purchase. 30 grand is more than I paid for my first house.

I had to research and start looking at trucks that weren't on my radar. The popular ones like the Tacoma are going to be pricey if you want one with anything close to 100k or less. Heck even 200k or less.

I ended up with a Ranger FX4 that has been a great truck, and because I shopped and researched and was quick to jump on it, it is worth more now with 40k more miles on it than what I paid for it. There are deals out there you just have to look and be willing to travel.

I sold my 2002 Ford F250 for $18000 about 7-8 years ago...that same truck will still bring close to $20000 with same mileage. I should've kept it.

Yeah, it's crazy. I was in the market for a new truck last summer. Hurt real bad.

I was looking a little last year or was until...I went to check out a Fx4 2011 with 78,000 miles on it now don't get me wrong it was a very sharp truck but when i saw the price tag I about fell over 39,500 No joke... So I decided to just keep my 2005 Tundra, I peek out every now and then and check prices but lord i can't pay more for a truck than I did my first couple of houses.....

I've got a 2010 F150 with 150,000'ish miles. Last time I checked blue book value, about 6-8 months ago, it was still around $22,000

Used prices are insane! Just about to turn over 200K on my 04 Tundra. Sure would like a newer one but it looks like I'll just have to patch her up and watch her limp along a while longer.

The tag renewal for my 1998 Toyota Tacoma is more expensive than my wife's car which is 12 years newer. In my quest to find out why and after about 4 different phone calls, the lady in Montgomery tells me that Toyotas have much more longevity. The book they use for valuation is some publication I have never heard of. Not KBB, not Consumer Reports, not JD Power, not Edmunds, not NADA. It valued my Tacoma at about $1500 more than the next nearest valuation I could find so they could collect more revenue.

Might sound crazy, but I have a fear of being in a wreck and my 2005 truck being totaled. I bought it new, it has a little over 200,000 miles on it, and it runs great. I know I could not get another one in as good of condition for the insurance pay off.

It's insane. Demand drives the prices. As long as there are a lot of people stupid enough to keep financing new ones at the prices the manufacturers and dealers are getting, it will only get worse. If the demand goes down, prices will go down.

I flatly refuse to fall into that trap. If I can't write a check for the vehicle, I can't afford it.

I will put new engines/transmissions/interior/paint/etc in my old truck forever if I have to and will still come out ahead.

So they're going to punish you for buying a durable truck? Geez

Based off that, buying new seems like a better deal, because that truck is more than halfway done.

We bought 2 Ford Pickups (A F-150 and a F-250)last year for my SILs company and they were the King's Ranch Edition. You dont even want to think about what these two vehicles cost. It was quite a bit more than 575 dozen arrows!

As a footnote, a good house could have been purchased for less than either truck.

Here's my solution. 2004 F250 310K miles. "New" engine has 150K

That is what will happen to my Tundra when ever she gives up the ghost....I will not pay the price of a new truck heck for what they cost I would have to live in it...

My work truck has 307,000 miles. No reason to sell a crew cab 4x4 truck, I'll gladly replace big ticket items with no complaints. I'm not spending $40,000 on anything unless it has a cap rate, GRM, dividend, ROI, or APY.

Yep, you can get a suv or another jeep cheaper than a truck.
Crazy.
I have a friend selling his 05 f150 4 door 4x4 at a good price (I think).
93,000 miles, never in mud for 13,500.
