When I bought my truck in November of 2013 I had been looking at used trucks. I looked for several months before I settled on a new one. I bought a brand new F-150 4wd for less than I could buy a used one with less than 50K miles on it. She is now paid for and I'm sure I'll be driving this one for a while....

Man, this makes me feel much better about my truck I bought a little less than 3 yrs. ago. 2010 F250 4x4 crew cab 6.8 gas burner, had around 180,000 miles. I was scared to death of the miles but I went ahead and bought for it $14K. I have 207,000 miles on it now, still runs and drives great. It loves the gas though.

I bought my 2004 Toyota Tacoma double cab 4x4 in January 2005,it had 17k miles on it and I paid $21k for it,it now has 179k miles on it and I plan to put that many more on it,I'm gonna be 37 in a few months and this is only the third truck I've owned, all 3 of them combined only cost me $36k which is less than a good used one now days,I just can't justify pissing away $500-$700 a month to drive a truck,I have friends that have always had a payment and never kept one till it was paid for,add that $5-$700/month payment up for 25-30 years and see how much $$$$ they've pissed away over that time just to drive a newer vehicle,I just won't do it

That's why I put a new engine in my 09 Ford-F150. They wanted more for a used one than I gave for it with 18,000 miles on it.

I just can't believe so many guys are having to put new engines into trucks that are less than ten years old. What is wrong with the engines??? popcorn

I have been wanting another truck for a few years now. Basically just going to upgrade to a four door. I currently have a 04 f150 two door with 150k on it. Nothing at all wrong with it just wanted a bigger truck for family and all. After seeing prices on new and used trucks my kids and wife will drive another vehicle if needed.

There is no way a "normal" person can afford those prices. I sure as crap can't.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

You're quite correct. I traded in my 2006 FX4 sCrew for a 2016 F250 for less than I could've bought a new F150 for. They also gave me $15K on my trade with 115k miles. Blue book in excellent condition was 12K with those miles.

Just spoke with a friend at work that got a 2015 Tacoma ,close to $40k, and traded his 2003 Tundra ( Tacoma size) that only had 78k on it. They screwed him and gave him only $4500 trade in on the Tundra and sold it for $9000.

I still drive my 96 Z-71 for hunting. Just rolled over 200,000 miles a few weeks ago. And it still runs strong. And unlike new trucks it performs like an agile cheetah and a strong stallion in the woods.

New 1500/150 trucks have all been bulked out, bulked up and flared up and out every direction to make them look like 2500/3500 farm trucks. And they lumber in the woods/rough terrain like airport minibuses.

I bought my 94 Z71 back in August with 170K miles it had an intake gasket leaking and the clear coat is cracked up but after i fixed the intake, a tune up and a new set of wheels and tires it's worth twice what I paid for it. But it's not going anywhere cause there's no way I could replace it with anything near as nice for the $$

Looked at a 2011 tacoma 4x4 the other day with 90K miles on it for 26K. Aint no way I'm paying that for a truck with dang near 100K miles on it.A small truck at that!! My 06 Tundra has 166K, may have to go that much longer. I may just have to put a motor in it when it goes out.

Get on Autotrader and search within 300 miles for about 4-6 months. You will find what you are looking for. I never go to a lot and ask about used prices.

In 2011 I bought my base model 2010 F150 crew cab with 55K V8 but not 4x4 for $16000.

There seems to be no standard prices on used trucks. You can find them all over the scale. Just keep looking until you find the one you want and what you want to pay.

Im 23 and bought a 2015 Chevy crew 1500 z-71. I looked for a long time at used ones and could buy new cheaper. I decided I was going to get a truck that I could drive A LONG time and have it paid off before I build a house. I'll start a house next fall or the following spring and won't have a house and truck payment right off the bat. Maybe I'll never have a house and truck payment at the same time, that's my plan at least.

I meant that lots of used trucks are being exported which is why there is a shortage of them here.

You are way smarter than you look. smile

When you build that house finance for 15 and make an extra payment every year and your house will be paid off before your truck is worn out.

I'm looking at getting rid of my 04 z71 now but I haven't had a truck payment since 06 so it's a hard pill to swallow.

I searched for almost two months for my 05 ram 2500 with the Cummings in it. I gave 17,500 for it and it books for almost 23k. Y'all think prices are crazy on gas burners look at diesel trucks. Anything with the 7.3 power stroke that is drive able is bringing 15k and those trucks are 15 years old with 200k miles.

This^ The 30 year mortgage is a con that will only keep you in dept. I bought my first house in '08 on a 30. By Spring of 13' I had paid of virtually nothing on the loan. Refinanced to a 15 and have sinced paid off nearly 20% of the loan. That's 20k on a 100k loan plus the increase in value.

I look at new and used trucks a good bit while out of town with work to pass away the time. The other week I was at the Chevrolet dealership in Huntsville and they had a loaded up Colorado 4x4 for around 39,000. Down at the other end of the lot they had 3/4 ton basic crew 4x4 with a 6 liter motor that had all the standard options but not the fancy wheels or electronics for 41,000. I would buy that 3/4 ton all day over the tricked out Colorado. Plus it already had tinted windows, step bars and a trailer hitch.
