Instead of highjacking the sharks post, here's some pics of the Dauphin Island Pier as it looks now...

Here's the view along the east side...

and to west...

From the west T looking toward Dauphin Island...

From the east T looking toward Dauphin Island...

including the sandbar by the beach that has built in with the incoming tides...

And the view southward from the end...

this is sad to see....i remember when i was young young we used to stay at a campground out on santa rosa i think it was. Used to go visit the old fort and swim in the bay, some of the best memories of my childhood.....wonder if it is rebuilt yet or if they even plan to. Would love to take the son there and give him some of the same kind of memories...instead of heckling with the traffic of PC from St Andrews

Hope It Wasn\'t Fort Pickens

We always have our family reunion in Panama City the weekend after Easter. I remember growing up and going down there every year, and going to the beaches, Miracle Strip Amusement Park, Petticoat Junction, St. Andrews State Park, and to Shell Island. Now there is nothing on the strip but high rises, Miracle Strip has been torn down, and it takes forever to get down the strip due to all the traffic. frown

I believe that the pictures were taken around high tide that day. There were 2 other pictures along with these of a guy that caught a keeper redfish up by the bait house. If it's low tide, you can forget it.

Are these pics very recent? I was down there about 3 or 4 weeks ago and there was more sand and less water than that. I might have been there at low tide during a good north wind.

They were taken on December 2 of last year. They were originally posted on the Great Days Outdoors forum by pier#r.
