My dad was diagnosed with cancer of the base of the tongue several years ago. He was in his 60s. The treatment regimen laid out by the doctors in Huntsville and Birmingham would have killed him. Basically a year of chemo and radiation. We got to researching alternatives and he went to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. As a service connected disabled vet, he stayed in a Navy base nearby. The did Laser surgery and got the tumor, removed a bunch of lymph nodes in his neck with traditional surgery which was worst part for him. He ate bacon and eggs for breakfast the next morning. Home within a week. That was 5-6 years ago. I say all this so you know Mayo offers a wonderful opportunity if you need to hear a different opinion and your insurance works for that. Prayers sent that docs can get your mom on road to wellness.
