They didn't technically "get enough people" as in 20 or 25 members... They got two suckers to foot about $35,000 of the bill... So I guess it would be more like, they got the "Right" people to cover the lease

Nolehunter74, I don't know either! I'm astounded!!!! As are several of us that "KNOW" the situation!

Anyway, hey guys!! Most of you know me and know the story about Riverdale Hunting Club. I had no clue what I was getting myself into last year when I agreed to foot the money for the 6586 ac lease on Cedar Creek in Dallas County that the Motts have had for several years, known as Riverdale Hunting Club.

In May of 2010, it was obvious that the Motts could NOT get enough members to pay the lease and told me that the reason was b/c they (the Motts) wanted to move to a stricter buck mgmt program and most all the current members did not want that! I agreed to take on the management role and take over the lease. Donnie Mott told several people (he denies saying this now but I have people willing to testify to this fact in court) that I was now in-charge . I was willing to let ALL members of Riverdale Hunting Club into the lease but Donna only wanted three members... and it's funny that all three members had hardly hunted in past years and those three were offered memberships by me and all three got in. My only requirement basically was no bucks under 3.5 yrs old unless it was a first time hunter!

To make a VERY LONG STORY short, last July, I put an ad in AFOA as well as this site for members and I WAS BLOWN AWAY AT THE NUMBER OF TELEPHONE CALLS I received from past members of Riverdale. Most all of them hated Donnie and Donna Mott and all of them told the same story. The reputation of Riverdale Hunting Club was so bad that I had to change the name of the club to Fawn's Hope and PROMISE potential members that I was in charge and not the Motts. It was like selling seats on a plane headed for hell.

I was "invested" in lease fees, planting, fuel, etc... for a 6586 acre club in DALLAS county with several miles on Cedar Creek and 2.81 miles bordering the Alabama River... I mean who would NOT join this quality deer managed club??? Guys... I could NOT get all the memberships required to pay the total $ it took to run the club!!! When some potential members would hear the Mott's name, they would NOT get into the club!! I never filled that club with our targeted membership number!

When the season started last fall, it didn't take long for the B.S. to start!! Well, those of you that know the Motts know exactly where I'm coming from.... Donna started her antics and would not open up "her shooting houses" as she said she would and Donnie even told one of my members that he needed to stay away from Donna's shooting houses. (That member is willing to testify to this... I say this in truth!) I wanted an open club and nobody could have "their" own shooting houses as Donna had several put up in the best places.

I could go on and on about the Motts claiming that we were shooting deer and letting them lay (of course, not true) and we got accused to baiting deer and you name it. This sort of stuff has been a pattern of the Motts as past members of Riverdale told the same story.

Donna hunts a TON (she and Donnie live close to the property) and Sign-Out sheets seem to disappear and members can't see who has hunted and where!!!

I had to twist her arm to allow "first time hunters" a buck and she made me limit first time hunter bucks to the lower 300 acres of an almost 6660 acres lease!!!

Anyway, Donnie and Donna reneged on me taking over the lease and took back control of the lease as their name was on the lease and the landowners don't seem to care. They just want the lease fees and not be bothered.

At this point, I really don't know what's going on but somehow, people put up with them ruling that club and the reason is b/c the property is GREAT hunting as we killed 22 bucks and all but one buck was 3.5 yrs old or older.

There are several people on this site that know EXACTLY what I'm talking about here. The horror stories about the Motts are numerous and they have been sued at least once regarding that hunting club.

I'm heart broken about that land as I busted my butt trying to make that club work but unfortunately, I didn't know the Mott's reputation when I agreed to take over Riverdale but did I find out in a hurry!

I'm still blown away at the number of people that have been unfairly treated by the Motts and most all of them "are willing to stand up" and voice their experiences.

It's a sad, sad, situation!

Those shooting house should have been hit by lightning and burned to the ground. Its not good, but its the only way to stress a point so some can understand.

I know, but I played "above board" in all aspects of my dealings with them. I am very proud of my involvement regarding Fawn's Hope as I wanted it to be a family friendly club that manages for 3.5 yr old bucks and where rules are abided by and enforced. The main thing was to have fun in a non-competitive environment.

"Non-competitive"!!! Speaking of non-competitive hunting... Anyone come to mind when "competition in hunting" is mentioned? Past members of Riverdale know exactly who I'm referring to! LOL!

good post rich i think alot more people know about the motts and riverdale now. that they should stay away until the motts are gone. trust me when i got out last year i wanted to wrap a chain around her shooting houses and pull them all done. but i used better judgement.

it is great land but i would tell anyone not to get into the club if the motts are in it. that is how bad they are if you shoot good deer they will run you into the ground. donna mott is the worst thing for any club and what is so bad is she is a woman. if i can help anyone not to join that club with them i will till they lose that land and it can be ran right. just had to vent some more about riverdale or what every they want to call it.

I preface this by saying that the claims I am making, I have individuals willing to give their statements in a court of law.

Nolehunter74, LOL! Last year about this same time, I got to hear your story times MANY stories from past members of R'dale about Donna and they were all the same. People would say: You BETTER NOT hunt where she hunts and don't hunt around "her" stands. If you kill a big deer or hunt during the week, you're gone (in other words, you would not be invited back the following year)!! Don't "challenge" the Motts if for example, Donna signs Donnie out as if he were hunting and he is not hunting... she signs him out to protect the area she's hunting. If you get on their bad side (which means pointing out a negative about the way they run Riverdale) you're going to get accused of shooting... baiting....etc...

The adjoining landowner told me that Donna accused them of trespassing on her and he's got several thousands of acres with better fields, habitat, plantings, etc... The adjoining landowner is ethical and law abiding and didn't appreciate being accused of such.

Donnie and Donna don't want any does shot but Donna puts the hammer down on does. They don't want YOU to shoot a doe but she can. In the sign out book, Donna's hunting location would be scratched out. She thinks everyone wants to hunt where she hunts but people want to see where locations have been hunted so they won't go there!!

Also, the Motts take such pride in their food plots... what they don't realize is that those "pretty food plots" are filled with volunteer rye grass!! LOL! Rye Grass! That's the last thing you want in a food plot! It looks pretty and green but they're too ignorant to realize it's rye grass and it's not a good thing.

I could go on and on...

Last year was the worst experience in my life (at Riverdale) and I would not wish dealing with Donnie and Donna Mott on my worst enemy. I take pride that I am in a HUGE number of people that feel the same as I do.

I don't like taking a personal issue to the Internet but I am not alone in thinking that hunters need to be warned about Donnie and Donna Mott and Riverdale Hunting Club.

I used to hunt riverdale back about 30 years ago and even then there were guys wading the creek and poaching the adjoining property and the game warden found a bunch of bait in one cutover and closed it to hunting for two weeks. Lots of other shenanigans with one guy crashing into another guys vehicle on one of the roads, heavy drinking, etc. I shot a couple nice bucks out of there but there was always somebody watching the sign out board and stealing spots, etc. Lots of bs going on.

Wow. You hear something about a person once you shake it off. Two or 3 times, meh but starting to get traction. Dozens of consistent and repeatable stories, well you gotta think there is more truth to them. I wonder if there is anyone willing to vouch for the good character of those Motts folks?

The Motts.... hunting club named after a papermill, right? It's coming back to me. It's been years ago, but I spoke with a guy that was in a club south of Selma that was run by a husband and wife pair. The wife was supposed to have been the worst human alive. Ha!! Maybe they lost the lease but I hate people like that that ruin things for good people.

Does Donna live in Dothan by chance? The company I worked for had a Donna Mott that worked in our Dothan office.
