That is absolutely laughable, according to that map I presume they think Walker and Fayette Counties have as many or more deer as anywhere in the state. Well I live close to the Walker Fayette line and have hunted in several places throughout the state and that is absurd. It should have been in the orange section for sure. Mike, there are definitely fewer deer in eastern Fayette and western Walker Counties in places. We know that. There are other areas in close proximity where deer are fine. I saw 49 deer yesterday in 7 miles of county roads in western Fatette co. That's not too uncommon. We didn't have enough information to justify moving it into Fayette Co. The area in the orange is where we have the most information and justification for making a change that we can defend. We can't extend it into pockets of lower numbers when 5 miles away deer are really dense.

IMO all of Walker Co and Fayette Co East of Hwy 43 or at the very least East of Hwy 13/43. That is very close do the dividing line of the diffrent soil regions and a lot of diffrence in deer densities in those two diffrent soil regions.

What happened to the deer is people go deer killing not deer hunting can't kill ever doe u see just to say u killed something.Alot of people are killing big deer that will stop when they are gone to with no does left.

Is this proposal statewide or select counties were I hunt on the Coosa county ,Chilton line area we dint see hardly any does this past season.i had 7 on my trail camera in one greenfield. But it was at night only had a few on 4,camera,s all year.

He is always trying to make hunting opportunities better for the hunters. Y'all should check out his channel. The man loves to kill turkeys and shoot does with a glorified pellet gun.

I like Chuck too, I've spoke with him several times both before and after he became director. I defended him on this very website when he got the directors job. All that being said, if he has a hand in extending deer season into February in Jackson County after he told me it would never happen , I'm DONE with him!

With the buck limit came the need for the "numbers guys" to resort to killing more doe to "feed their families". Now we have fewer doe. Who didn't see that coming?
I think that killing doe on public land should be outlawed for a while. Bankhead would be a prime example. Of course more would need to be done to improve forage to up the holding capacity. Maybe 1 doe every two years for a hunter on public land would be a good place to start. I would even impose a 1 buck per year law for public land.

I doubt that number would be 90%. That being said, there is a good percentage in areas that obviously don't need the season extended into February that would be for it. When asked given season has been open for 3.5 months, rut has come and gone, give a biological reason to extend season they'd look at you like you were from Mars. What's common sense along with scientific data got to do with Bubba goin' huntin'?

Perhaps the state should have a draw for tags and hunting spots on public land like out west.
That way only a very small number of hunters could legally hunt deer on the WMAs, and they'd wait every four or five seasons. Put in for the draw, get a preference point if not drawn, sit on your hands for four or five years to get a chance to kill that big ol' 8-point and then wait another four or five for another chance.
