I'm right handed and it's my right ear too. Usually I can pinpoint a bird fine gobbling but it's drumming and foot steps in leaves I'm worried about the most. At least I could still pinpoint last year. But it's gone downhill really bad in last few weeks all the sudden. had a cold/allergy lately? any other "symptoms"/ things you've noticed recently? Had bad headaches this winter on right side of my head but figured it was sinus. They been gone now for a while though. I could hear ok after my ear cleaning last week but it's like its been really clogged since then. I'd urge you to be attentive to any other rapid onset symptoms like that for now. Certainly not telling you what to do or not to do, but medically speaking, those might be considered red flags.

Well oddly enough I was up on a catwalk helping load a fertilizer tanker this pm and all the sudden my ear started popping and fizzing. It feels a lot better now and can hear somewhat better. Not muffled anymore. Hope it was just a temporary pain.

Oddly enough, I can hear drumming over 100 yards away but my high frequency hearing is so damaged from years of abuse that I can't hear certain songbirds (and a lot of other things). I assumed the damage on the high end helped me hear the low end better. But, I'm just making lemonade out of a sackful of lemons. I've been wearing power muffs for about 4 years. They do amp up hearing but directional capability stinks. It's hard to slip them on when ones getting close sometimes but I'm adapting. That's the same way I am - I can hear drumming a lot further than most people, but anything high pitched I don't hear at all. I hear nothing at all on the first 7 keys on the piano, but hear the other end ok. I wear a Peltor muff when deer hunting, but I can't get the direction on a turkey very well when wearing it. I seem to still be able to hear one gobbler reasonably well, though nothing like it used to be.
