Maybe you should start a Virginia Yankee turkey forum and they would understand your sense of humor, we probably aren't intelligent enough down here to get your sarcasm. Heck, I just learned how to read. Only Yankees you will find here is in the far northeast part of the state and yes we do not claim them lol. Got a friend that lives there and I rag him all the time about his accent as he calls me hillbilly lol. Y'all keep bad mouthing me I may have to buy a license and drive down and kill some of your birds lol. Seriously guys no need to take it so personal. I'm only serious about .000003321 of the time Nothing taken personal! I am just giving you a hard time. Stay up there and hunt your own turkeys though

No doubt that genetics has slot to do with it. Fla kills 1.75" regular and 1.5" is common, Ga kills 1.5" regularly and 1.25" is common. Al kills way more 1.5" than ms. Here in ms, a 1.25" is huge. I know of 3 true 1.5" soured birds killed here in my area in the last 30 years. A 1.125" spur is a great spur here. Now if course you have the Johny Reds that kill 1.25 to 1.5 all the time but can never show you the spurs. I have 3 friends that hunt FL and south GA regular. One of them has killed 2 1.5" birds out of about 120 turkeys. The other 2 guys have never killed a 1.5" turkey. Common is not the word I would use to describe the occurrence of 1.5" spurs.
I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine

I have a friend that moved to la grange 10 years ago. Since then he has been on 4 hunts where 1.5" were killed and when I visited 3 years ago I killed my only 1.5". Went on a draw hunt in Osceola county in 99 and met a warden that had killed a 2" set the day before I got there. He showed me numerous pics of 1.5" and talked like it was not uncommon down there.

Here is a 2 year old with an 11" beard. Poor fella had a chance to have been a real Boar Tom one day I just misjudged him and pulled him too green. I hate it that I killed him but I guess it happens to everybody. Did you run over it?

I think I will post more. I thought Yankees had no sense of humour. Had to check to make sure I wasn't on a Midwest deer forum. Va=yankeeland If VA is Yankee land then Robert E Lee was a yankee. His plantation was in VA just across the river from DC. I grew up in VA and I dang sure ain't no yankee. Things are different these days and far northern VA might as well be in NY. However, as you go south it's rural and a lot like the rest of Dixie. In western, central and southern VA there are plenty of hillbillies, rednecks and good old country folks

I've never killed a bird with over 1.25 spurs. (90 birds between eastern, Rio, Merriam). I've only killed 3 with that length. 2 were eastern's from Montgomery county and 1 was a Rio from just outside San Angelo, TX. I mounted one of the Eastern's and the Rio. I've personally never seen a bird (other than pics) with with spurs were 1.5 inches. That would be a sight to see for sure. Dr. B

In 2 years that beard couldve been 15-16 inches easy! Dont be too hard on yourself though. It happens.
