You are a dumbass, we would not be talking to each other on the internet right now if it were not for the Moon missions. The advances Science makes by trying to figure out really difficult things, like going to Mars, ultimately end up with us having a better life for us and our children. You would not have direct tv, or even tv dinners if it were not for space exploration.

NASA and darpa and such spend a lot money(and could probably do a better job a managing it), but the return on investment from these is infinitely higher than the other crap our government is pissing away funds at.

Thanks for the unwarranted insult Yeah, I get through the trillions of dollars spent we got a bunch of byproduct like Velcro, (that's expected) but we got nothing productive from actually finding the moon? Wouldn't have been a whole lot cheaper to not worry about all the moon crap and just send satellites up that are actually productive It was all someone's obsession with beating the Russians. If they had beat us there would anything be different? Same with Mars, what's is the max end goal?

Agree with skinny, if you think space exploration is unimportant, ya got problems.

You can complain about the money spent but could you not also complain about wasted on needless wars or funding other governments? Watch some S. TREK NG, for some awesomeness

Agree with skinny, if you think space exploration is unimportant, ya got problems. I think trying to plant a flag somewhere we know has no value is unimportant. All of the space technology advancement is invaluably important. Just do that I just want to know what value we get out of planting a flag on Mars.

It took a few years for this subject to come back around unlike the yearly Vasectomy.

NASA has never spent a trillion dollars. Their budget is much less than 1% of the total budget. There are at least 10 Corporate Welfare policies that are more than the NASA budget. Farm Subsidies are just one of those. The technology that they inspire impacts everything almost everything you do from the bed you sleep on, the food you eat, GPS, Communications, Energy, Mapping, Disaster Preparedness , Health Care and the list goes on and on. I only wish other government agencies were as beneficial as good of an investment as NASA.

What is the GREATEST POSSIBLE CONCEIVABLE outcome from landing on mars? If they found human bones it wouldn't effect our daily life I'm not in any way arguing to cut out space research, I just don't understand pointless goals

People that didn't grow up during the "Space Program" and/or never took interest in the vast number of things invented/created via that research and the space missions will never appreciate thousands of simple things that are common in today's everyday life. It sucks that most people don't know the history and good that has come from NASA.

Again, I'm not arguing against space exploration, I just don't understand the money spent on trivial objectives

It's obvious that you are ignorant of all the good that has come from NASA. Perhaps you should consider saving yourself more embarrassment and actually research the products, medicines, scientific discoveries, etc that we have via NASA. Otherwise, yes, you present yourself as a dumbass.

Otherwise, yes, you present yourself as a dumbass. What is obvious is that you can't read. We can budget the money and spend it without a stupid goal like putting a flag on a planet/moon with no resource value. At no point have I said anything negative about nasa or or all the great things they've come up with, it's amazing all the developments they've come up with. I just don't see the end positive result from actually planting a flag on the moon or mars How is that hard to read or understand?

Money spent on something that seems like trivial pursuits led to us living here with clean water, easy food, and interwebs. The Queen of Italy gave Christopher Columbus a bunch of money to pursue a trivial pursuit, look how that turned out.

Space exploration is like happiness. It's not the destination that is the key, it's the trip that pays off.
If it weren't for ocean travel we wouldn't have the figured out the longitude problem or a cure for scurvy or no telling what other marvels were discovered. Maybe Mars will be just dirt and rocks but maybe a discovery that is made along the way that is worth way more than just the trip. Just like Columbus, Humbolt, Cook, and Lewis & Clark. Maybe Mars is a liberal wonderland and they will all want to move there.

Except Christopher Columbus was searching for something he believed to be a beneficial land full of great opportunity.... Not to put a flag down and sail back to Spain.
