My father in law had a 2013 half ton silverado. At 101000 he had to have an engine put in it it was right at $10000 and at 110000 he put a nearly $5000 transmission in it. I now have a toyota. My money won't go back to gm until they get some stuff figured out. My transmission in my 2012 Silverado is out now. Did the motor work back in December. If I had john Morris money, I wouldn't give a shitt.

My [paid for] '98 F150 with 222k miles and no major mechanical issues is looking better and better every day.

I would absolutely lose my chit if I bought a $60k+ truck and had to have anything done to it except oil changes, filters, brakes, and tires for 120,000 miles

One of our employees Chevy Avalanche had the fuel pump to fail. It is inside the fuel tank under the rear seat on the driver side and the dealership requires the body to come off the frame to replace it. The cost was gonna be in the thousands. He took the seat out and cut the sheet metal directly above the access panel on the fuel tank, making a professional looking opening to get the pump out and a new one in. Then he cut a slightly oversize piece of sheet metal to cover and seal the opening after replacing the pump. I like it, that's the way I think.

At any rate, the thought of having to pull the body for a pump....ugh maybe this is just me trying on a tinfoil hat, but I'm convinced manufacturers are intentionally making their vehicles as hard as possible for the average joe to work on himself, just so you're forced to take it to the dealership for more and more stuff. Nope not even considered that average joe will be working on then. The ONLY consideration is how can it be assembled the easiest and cheapest and reduce the weight to get the GOVERNMENT mandated gas mileage. Not to mention the manufacturer does not make money off of repairs, they make money off of selling new cars. Just like computers and all electronics and most all products now are disposable. Don't sale new ones if nobody is buying new ones.

Where they get you is OEM parts that are not always easily aftermarket available. imo

Not sure about the duramax stuff but I wonder if there is a difference in the GM version and the Chevy. I know they are made by the same company but would think it would be a little different. Hope mine doesn't go out

I know a feller with a Duramax that bought a tank of bad fuel at a small station. Hit the interstate after bout 100 miles it quit on him. Had it hauled back to Scottsboro. He had to replace everything about the fuel system, tank, lines, filters, pump, injectors , everything. Best I remember parts were bout 4K. Bright side , he's a diesel mechanic , did all the work himself.

Thats just Great! I have one w 7k. Hated it since 200 miles ! Mitch Smith in Cullman sucks btw ! Truck had a leak causing the seat to move going down the road along with brake pedals. They attempted to fix it did not. I showed my ass with them and GM, wanted it replaced. Buy a ford and don't by from Mitch Smith cullman !

They have people paying 50k plus for pieces of junk and then get to sell them parts when they tear up.

Why are you fussing? This sounds like a typical post-1995 GM product. They let the unions, management, and the government run them into the ground and largely out of the country, and people act surprised that their quality has suffered?

I joked that all of this made me feel a lot better about my 18yr old 222k mile truck, but honestly if I were in the market to buy a new truck today, I'm honestly not sure what I would buy....
They all seem to have a myriad of major issues...
GM - the issue above, common transmission issues, seems there are a lot of issues with their gas engines. known a lot of people that have experienced TONS of electrical gremlins
FORD - I wouldn't touch one of their 3/4 ton diesel with a 10ft pole anymore. Don't know much about their gas burners these days so maybe that would be an option.
DODGE - Frankly, never heard much of anything good about them in the last several years.
that leaves Nissan and Toyota. I've just never liked the Nissan trucks, no matter how much I try to make myself, and you have to take out a 2nd mortgage to buy a Toyota.
I mean, what the crap...

And you think ford is any better? The original post meant to informational. As for the fussing/bitching, you never complain?
