How large of a plot? I would do a soil sample and follow the directions. Unless its a large plot your not going to be able to lime it with a truck, they wont come out for small fields. Use pelleted lime, it works faster because of the particle size, plus sandy soil reacts faster with lime than clay soil. If you want to plant something this summer, go with buckwheat. It builds the soil and the deer wont decimate it. I would add milo or millet to add some carbon and also some tthatch for a fall planting. Come fall, plant a good mix of cereal grains, clover and brassica's. Most co-ops have some good generic blends that work well.

I would go ahead and get a soil sample off to auburn, then lime the hell out of it and plant something for the summer that will help build the soil. May want to check out CNC's threads on throw and mow.
