Drill holes. Fill with buttermilk, and put plastic over it. This, if time isn't an issue. The bacteria in buttermilk will help rot the stump faster than Stump-Rot or any of that other stuff. If time is an issue, a backhoe or a stump grinder is hands down you're best option. Manually clearing an acre over the past 2 years, some little stumps and a lot of big ones, I've tried every "trick and tip" I've been given or ever heard of, and I can tell you that burning stumps only works if it well dead and dried, and rotting stumps is a slow process on its' best days.
