I know several of you on here hunt that area near Hobbs Island Rd. Last night when I got down there to the Flint 40 as I call it, somebody has put a gate right up against Hobbs Island and you can longer access that area unless you were to go to the boat ramp.

Anybody have any idea if this was legal? Or has anybody else seen the gate? I hunt down there 2-3 nights a week so the gate is brand new. To my knowledge that was a County Road and it has to be a landowner who put the gate up.

I'm not familiar with that area specifically but I know a lot of folks tromp around what they think is public land on/near the Flint River and it's very much private property... some unknowingly, some just don't care.

Be curious to know if that's the case here or if a landowner tried to take matters into their own hands and keep folks from drifting. Let us know what you find out.

I'm not familiar with the area you are talking about, but TVA is known to put up gates around here.

It is not a TVA gate. The road used to go to two more gates- a big steel TVA gate and also a gate to a farm that joins that public property. Now there is a red cattle gate at Hobbs Island Rd, blocking access to the steel TVA gate.

I called the commissioners office and they can tell me absolutely nothing about the road and it identifies as "County Hwy-229" on my iPhone maps.

The road you are speaking of leads to what "used" to be Long Grey Line Farm. At the last curve there is an orange TVA gate. The other gate was the entrance to the farm. Ive hunted the Long Grey Line farm for years (private land), but the owners recently sold the farm to someone from New Hope I believe. The previous owner used to call the gravel road their driveway, but I was never sure that it wasn't actually some kind of easement. Not sure on the legalities, but that is what has happened. I haven't been out there since the farm sold 3 or 4 months ago.

I'm always confused on where to go out there. I've been twice and once I thought I was going to get mugged by meth heads and the second time I thought I was going to get shot, so I didn't stay long enough to explore.

May be the source of the gate, I Know....

I don't know about everybody else but I know where all the property lines are on that place. So don't assume that I'm trespassing because I'm not.
