Farmers killing bucks with their depredation deer permits? That would be illegal. Can't you report them? My dad had a permit back in the 90s and it was for any deer, any time of day. Have they changed the permits to protect bucks? Its sickening to see pics like those, but the permit my dad had required that the deer had to be left in the field to rot. Unless they have changed things, the farmer who shot those deer may have handled it the way he was required. I would be interested in hearing more about it. Its a sad sight no natter what the rules.

Not sure about that though. And like I said, he "advised" them not to do it. Instead of writing them tickets

Thanks for the info. I guess they have changed the permits; not really something I've kept up with. I remember my dad waking me up at 2 am to go shoot at deer with a 22. I made sure I shot over them, he didn't.

If they're doing it at night, they may not be able to tell if it has antlers or not. Is the land owned or leased by the farmer?

Farmers that used to shot crop deer around here only gut shot the animal. Those kinda look like spine shots. Gut shot deer run off the field to die not get caught up in a header. Years ago I did know of a fellow that tried to kill big bucks on the crop permit close to Oct 15th. In todays hunting world there should be NO issue of crop depravition permints. Simply let folks harvest the excess aninamls.

In TN the farmers are able to keep the meat. Idk if it's does only but I haver never seen them shoot a buck during summer.

I wonder if the farmers have to report their kills to Game Check? They should! Good question for the Game Check pep rallys.

Pitiful. I agree there's no need for dep permits much anymore. My name is on several but I just don't care to go do it anymore. We always gut shot does only. Made the extra effort to do it right but some folks just think it's an excuse to act like fools.

The game wardens who chose not to write tickets to those farmers, have bosses. I'd rattle their phone off the desk.
I hate to see waste like that.
