One thing I've never understood is why people like sad/depressing songs so much. I, personally, try to avoid them as much as possible. Same with downer shows/movies/books/etc. A lot of people will tell you they particularly enjoy them when they're feeling down because they can relate to the songs. Like chicks listening to breakup songs after getting dumped. To me, that seems counterintuitive. If I'm down about something, I'd much rather listen to something that takes my mind off of it and/or cheers me up.
There's too much sad, depressing crap going on in real life to intentionally seek it out in music, tv, film, etc. Because they are better than listening to songs about Dixie cups drinking beer tearing up dirt roads and jacked up trucks
