It really depends on the Club your in, and how things are done. I got an invitation to join a 5000 acre lease. This club does things a lot different then anything I have seen before. Each member has their own 100-150 acre share of the club, and they can only hunt within their bounderies. If you want to do feeders or food plots, then you take care of your own stuff. If you want or don't want to prepare for hunting season, then it's completely up to you. It's really neat how they handle new members and exiting members. They operate on a seniority basis, and vacated share rights are offered to most senior members 1st. A member is not limited to how many shares he controls as long as they pay up for them. New members are only offered shares when no other members want them. You can bring guests onto the lease as long as they stay on your share. In the off season, members can ride ATV's where ever they want up till a month before hunting season. I'm committed to Alabama this year, but am considering the new club.
There is a club around Lagrange, GA that is ran that way, I knew a guy that joined it and was a member for several years, he left because he was too old to work his way up to a decent part of the property.

That sounds like a great system for the old guys who are getting the new members hunting the gar holes to subsidize their sweet spot. Folks must be desperate to hunt to sign on for something like that. I agree.

Folks must be desperate to hunt to sign on for something like that. I could see where that might be a factor. The friend that is sponsoring me has been there for 5 years, and he is still hunting his original share. He has passed on many shares that were vacated, and is happy with what he got from the start.

The notion of a "reserve area" for each member is a terrible idea in my opinion. No way. No how. Not on my land.

I was in a club like that once... It wasn't laid out like that up front, but that's how things were ran. I didn't stay long.

Say your dues are $1,500 and you have 4 work days necessary to ready the club for the season. Everyone pays $1,900 in June and then they get $100 back for every workday they attend. I bet you'll see attendance rise, and not have any sore feelings for those that just can't make it. Also, some people really do have a busier late summer than they do a Fall/Winter.

I bet you'll see attendance rise, and not have any sore feelings for those that just can't make it. Also, some people really do have a busier late summer than they do a Fall/Winter. That's not a bad idea. What I find worse than not showing up, is someone that is down there burning the roads up on a four wheeler "learning the property" yet they drive around every limb that has fallen and is IN or overhangs the road. People act like they need you to hold their hand to go get anything done. It's not that tough. Go crawl your ass up in the shooting houses that you'll be sitting in all year long and cut the limbs that block your view. While riding the roads, if something touches your mirror, cut it. Clean the shooting houses out, and if you have a tractor show up and help bushhog or whatever. It's not rocket science. If you don't know how to use cutting tools or cleaning stuff, I'd be worried about you handling a firearm. Just paying that almighty dollar doesn't make you exempt from any work needing to be done. Get off ur ass and quit being lazy. This ain't your house, nor am I your wife or momma who does everything for you. Rant over
This is Aldeer! The place people come to vent their frustrations and completely change their stance a few minutes later...

This definitely sucks and unfortunately is to common. I joined a new club last year and it seems pretty good. We had a good turn out for planting and work days with only a few joy riders.

Yea, i can't stand liar's and lets just call them what they are. Last 2 years in a row i've had members tell me they were going to be in the club and then when the dues are due, back out, leaving me holding the bag.Well, now it's just me, my oldest son and a friend of mine that hunts with his son. I'll never take on anymore members. It's better to pay more and have less members, less of a headache.

We fine for no work days, stated up front. If you don't pay in cash, you are asked to leave immediately. You sure as hell ain't hunting.
We've found offering 2-3 work days with the option of leaving one out works well. Then if folks can't show for one, they can still come for 1 or 2 others. We are all busy, lots of commitments, so its understandable if you can't make one date.
I will say, the summer is the busiest time of the year, working 6 days per week, some 60-70 hr weeks. My work slacks off come October and I start to get the itch then, so those back-breaking work weekends are actually enjoyable. Its also possible to stay somewhat hydrated and cool.
