About to acquire a new turkey shooter. Can't decide if I want a 1x4 scope or a red dot. I've had both over years (never killed bird with either, just beads). What say ye?

You shoot a gun that throws a deadly 40 yard pattern.
A lot of folks today are shooting a gun with a deadly 60 yard patterns. There's definitely an argument for dots and more precise sights.

Beads are great until you start seeing 3 of them.
I tested the patterns on a shotgun for dove hunting a few weeks ago. I thought the gun was shooting left until the third shot; then a realized I was aiming with the wrong bead.
Use a bead or a fiber optic if you can see it. I use a holo sight since I can't.

My preference is beads, but if I had to choose an optic, it would be a FF3. I'll never have a scope on a turkey gun +1

I don't have near the experience that most of y'all have on this site, but I have enough to know that I don't want a scope on a turkey gun. I'll stick with my fiberoptic sights. I might take the little bushnell trs-25 red dot off my AR and put it on a turkey gun one day if I find that the fiberoptic sights aren't getting it done, but that's about as crazy as I intend to get.

I have a Camo Bushnell 1.5 x 4 that im very pleased with At first I thought the same about a scope for a shotgun until I tried it, patterns being so tight anyway
