Ok, I have decided that I'm going to purchase a vortex scope. Ole eyes ain't what they used to be so I thought about getting a stronger scope, 6x24x50 ?? It has been a really long time since I have purchased any optics. There are so many options heck to me it's confusing. It will be used for nothing but deer hunting. It is going on a 7MM Mag.. Any suggestions on what to purchase power wise. Thanks in advance.

What is your budget?
What is your typical shot distance?

Unless you're absolutely blind as a bat or casually shooting 500yard shots a 6-24 seems completely unnecessary

I agree with this, the majority of deer I shoot the scope is usually set to4-5x.

Get a good 3-9x50 and it'll be the last scope you ever need. I like Zeiss but there are several that are good.

The furthest I would probably shoot would 300 to 350 yards. That would be a comfortable distance for me. I know this has been beat to death but what is the difference in 50 and 56mm. I know Zeiss has one that is 56mm. It doesn't have to be Vortex, I just know if you can't see it , you can't shoot it.

I think the vortex you are describing is a good option. Or either zeiss up to around 16-20 zoom. I rather have too much zoom than not enough. 350 yards it would be nice to be able to zoom him on in. I had a 3-9x50 and then a 4-16x56 and now I have my Swarovski 5-25x50 and I can tell you I will never go back to a lower zoom scope. Counting whiskers at 100 yards is nice.

If you are going with Vortex get the 4-16x50 HS-T or PST if you want illuminated article.

Cabelas has the vortex viper hs 2x10 for $299 with rings. Look for coupon codes, last week they had a additional 20% off code. Awesome deal.

Don't know how much you're looking at spending, but Cabela's also has a Vortex Viper HS-LR 4x16x50 on sale. The one on sale has the XLR reticle and is the first focal plane model. MSRP - $949, regular Cabela's price - $850, SALE PRICE - $450. That's a smokin good deal if that's the type of scope you're looking for.

I looked at the Vortex Hoghunter crossfire II 3x12x56 AO (adjustable objective) with V bright reticle at Cabellas. Not bad for that price point. My sight is not the 20/15 it use to be and wearing glasses when hunting sucks. However with the AO I was able to focus and see without my glasses. I do like my Vari x III but I am considering the Vortex.

If your still looking and IF your vision has deteriorated like mine over the years ,,,a 3x9x40 no longer worked for me,,, my groups got larger and larger.

I couldn't see well enough to sight in a new rifle with it so I had to look at something stronger,,,

I bought a Bushnell Elite 4X16x40 for my 30.06 ,,, it was better but I still had problems seeing well..

I then purchased a Bushnell Banner scope in the 6x18x50 for my Rem 7mm mag ,,,, went to the range and wow,,, at 100yds I could see like I had a new set of eyes,,, zeroing in was fun once again,,, when hunting leaving it low power is best depending on your distance,,,but if you need the power it's there,,,

Bushnell's banner scopes aren't really a shooters dream,,,the eye relief suffers a bit , but they do the job for me,,,if you have the money purchase a higher end scope ,,,but the 6x18x50 is my power now,,,
