I am hesitant to post this because I don't want this to be a "look what I did" post. Rather, I hope this will encourage someone else who is trying to get motivated to lose weight and be an overall healthier person. When I decided to make a life change I weighed in at 237lbs. As of this week, praise the Lord, I have lost 40lbs and I am weighing in at 196 and change. The benefits are almost too many to list. I feel so much better. The main thing is my health. I've got 3 kids and a lovely wife and I did this for myself and for them. My family has a history of high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart attacks. Mostly due to a bad diet. Anyway if you are on the fence about trying to get healthy. Just start, do it for your family, your wife your kids...do it for yourself! Ok, im done with my motivational speech Before anybody who knows me responds to this thread, yes I know I'm still ugly ![grin grin](/forum/images/graemlins/default/grin.gif)

Congrats to you sir!
The wife and I started on a program called Purium earlier this week. My weight was 234 when I started. I am not going to get on the scales until the first 10 day phase has been completed.
My goal is to get back to 175. It won't be easy. But, it will be worth it.

Congrats! That's a great loss and change of habits.
So, now, as someone sitting on/at about 230 and can't seem to get any lower, what did you do and eat or not do and not eat? Because I'm about to the point of getting my Case XX and the old Hoover vacuum extension for home liposuction even after a change in diet, sleep and regular exercise.

Thank y'all for the kind responses! Clem, this is what I did. -Counted calories from day 1. I had a daily goal and I stuck with it. I used the app "my fitness pal". - I eat as clean as possible. Meaning fresh produce, organic vegetables and fruits. No fried food ever. Grilled and baked fish and chicken. - I only drink water. Gave up sweet tea and all carbonated beverages, even diet drinks. - I try not to eat foods with artificial sweeteners - as far as exercise I don't have a real regimen. I just try to stay active. When I first started I bought a Garmin vivofit, it counts my steps and alerts me when I've been sitting down for too long. I run some, walk alot with my kids and wife around the neighborhood.

Very nice, good job and congratulations. I'm inspired ... Rocket, I remember seeing you post about meal prep a while back and that helped me. Position control and being prepared with healthy food to eat at work rather than going out helped me a lot.

Great news.
I switched to eating predominantly protein/veggies with some, but minimal carbs and have dropped 25# in 4 months. I've had to tighten the belt a notch. I've started keeping a bag of almonds in the truck for when I get hungry. I'm staying active a few days a week but could do more. Anyway, I'm aiming to get to my weight when I graduated college >20 years ago. Only another 5 or so lbs.
