Do go to Dollywood. Do eat at Aunt Grannys there. That was one fine meal! And a buffet too. I got my moneys worth!

I'll be in Cades Cove tomorrow morning at daybreak, so I'll post some pics tomorrow after we get back and I've got wifi. I'm hoping to see a lot of deer.

Last few times I went to CC, I saw very few deer also. We tried to count them about 10 or 12 years ago as we drove the loop one afternoon and we gave up somewhere around 300 or so. We probably saw 500 or more which seemed to be common back then. The last trip I saw about 10-12, maybe 15 at the most. I will say though, that the moon phase wasn't right for optimum sightings that afternoon. Still, I expected to see more than that.

Like peace and quiet? Go to Townsend or Cosby Tn. instead.

We were there last October and lost count of the deer we saw. Saw a bunch of bears too.

Exactly. My advice to someone going to Gatlinburg would be to either not go, or try to stay drunk enough to make it fun. Hated it.

We rode over to Cherokee one afternoon to watch some elk come out in a meadow. I enjoyed. Not just everywhere in the South you can go see elk. It was a spectacle. Tons of people. Elk paid them no mind.

For my family, no trip is complete without breakfast at the Apple Barn. Apple fritters dragged through some of their made on site Apple butter is some kind of good.

Someone on here said awhile back that The Peddler wasn't what it used to be. That is a shame, because it used to be a great steak place. I wouldn't be afraid to try it again to see if the critic may have caught it on a bad night.

If you are going to do a theme park, Dollywood is about as tolerable as they come. If you have older people in your crowd that won't ride the rides, it is still great. they can just go from show to show and be entertained all day.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The Apple Barn isn't what it used to be either. The fritters and apple butter were the only highlights the last several times we've been. The food was terrible. So much so that we've made three trips up this year and haven't been to the Apple Barn a single time.

I never liked Gatlinburg; way too crowded. I do like Townsend. More peaceful and closer to Cades Cove. I will say that breakfast at the Apple Barn in Apple Valley (Pigeon Forge)is one of my favorite places to eat.

Cades Cove is always on my list of things to do.

I've enjoyed the Aquarium and Ripley's. I've been to the Dixie Stampede which is probably way overpriced but is still fun for a dinner and a show.

There are outlet shops of all kinds there, mainly in the Pigeon Forge area. Lots of different things to do. Many good hiking trails in that area if you are into that. I enjoyed the Smokey Mountain Knife Works store. There is also the comedy barn. I also have to make at least one stop at the Bass Pro in Sevierville.

There is also Dollywood. I met Dolly when I was about 14, but that is a different story smile

we are actually staying roughly 10 miles from townsend.
I went last year, the last week of October, and only got to stay a couple days. We are going to spend a lot of time in cades cove and around the park.

Sounds like the peddler or alamo and also apple barn gets the nod for food. We plan to hit atleast one place for some good pancakes.
I also heard today from a buddy of mine that the aquarium is very nice. My mom may enjoy it, so may take a day to just do a few attractions around town.

I highly appreciate all the responses. If you guys have any other attractions that stand out, let me know

This. Pancake Pantry is good, but its ALWAYS overcrowded and can't beat Log Cabin. We started going to Gatlinburg when I was a kid and always went to LC. If you get there early enough you never have to wait that long.

I would add the brewery next to Calhoun's as well. Last year was my first time and it was good.
