I'm trying to help a friend out that is looking for a good bow for a 15 year old to start with, but hopefully keep for the next several years. Any suggestion and approx. cost would be appreciated.

Might want to have him find the nearest archery shop and talk to them. Depends on the size and strength of the kid. What's the budget? Just be sure to keep the poundage managable. I'm guessing 50 pounds +-. You can find good used bows on www.Archerytalk.com. My last 3 bows have come from there. I found a 50 lb Bowtech General for my 14 yr old last year. You can buy a basic bow and add accessories or buy a bow with accessories already on it. Generaly those accessories will be low end though. There is no cut and dry answer. Size of the kid and budget would help though.

He is 5'9" about 155 and a football/baseball player. Trying to keep it around 300.00. I shoot a matthews, so started looking at the mission craze. I'll look on the archery talk site and see what I see. Thanks for the suggestions

At that size you need go ahead and get an adult bow. You need to find out how much weight he can draw. His draw length is going to be approximately 27.5 to 28", but he needs to be measured at a shop.

This is good advice about getting an adult Bow? My son is 15 and he shoots my hand down MQ1. He can hit Nickles at 30 yards with it? Just be sure you can adjust the Draw and Weight(Most New Bows have this). If your Max price is $300 you should be able to find a Great Bow for that if you look. I got a Switchback for $200 awhile back and its a Great Backup!! Goodluck!!

my son is 12 and I got him the Mission Maniac, it and the craze are about the same. It has alot of length adjustment and poundage tops out at 71# i think (depending on draw length). You can get the misson new for less than $300.

Make sure you pick one with some draw length adjustment. He will keep growing of course.

I am going to buy my 9 year old a Mission Craze. I do not see any reason to buy a 15 year old a bow that will adjust down as low in poundage and draw weight as those will. Like Shaw said, buy him a man bow. Get a good used one and that's all he'll need for the next 10 years.
