Anyone know how much the drought will effect the Sipsey and how much water they run through it? Was thinking about going fly fishing tomorrow instead of hunting, just to change things up. But don't know how good it will be and don't want to drive all that way for nothing.

I would think generation would be non existent. It has been years since I fished there but riverside fly shop should have the generation schedules on their website

Yeah I found the scheduled times. But I guess I'm asking even without generation, is there still going to be water?

Oh I'll bet they're just congregated in the deeper areas. If think it be better fishing like that but my trout fishing expertise is limited.

Park at the pumping station and walk up to the dam. It's deeper and you should catch some fish. I use small rooster tails and light spinning reels and catch a lot every time I've been. Good luck.

I've fished from the pump station up to the damn and at the platform at the dam. They'll have water. It's almost always good fishing.

I use 2 or 4 lb line, no weight and an egg hook with salmon eggs and they seem to bite real well.

They keep a constant small flow for an agreement with the Alabama chapter of trout unlimited, but they're still running 1 turbine every day of the week except Saturday and Sunday from around 4-6pm. The lake is 12.5feet below full pool, not sure why they're still pulling. They may go all the way to 496 this year after last years flood, but I hope not.

The Sipsey is basically a glorified ditch...that's not to say I wouldn't fish it if I lived close by. It's not what you'd expect to see in N. Ga or somewhere in the ozarks. Not really any shoals...well small ones. I've fished their a few times though.

Caught a few. Seems like it hasn't been stocked in a while. I was fishing next to an older gentleman and he gave me a lot of advice on fly fishing. He gave me a few flies and told me to tie one on, after that, it was game on. I caught 2 that were about 18 inches. It was fun.

Had a good, relaxing day. Really all I was looking for. Met some people, and talked more than I fished I think. Met another couple guys at the parking area and they gave me about 10 flies. It was cool to chat and learn from more experienced fishermen.

Yeah, it was weird, it seemed like there were ONLY fish that size. The guy that was helping me out caught quite a few and they were all very large.

LOL sorry N2, Ill get a picture of it posted later today. About to head out. He caught one on a wooly bugger, I caught mine on a small midge (I think, I'm new to this and don't really know the names of stuff) with a dry fly tied 2-3 feet above it as an indicator. I also had one on a San Juan worm but lost it.
