I've been told by the Biologist yes, just keep the head and sex organs in tact. If it's a mandatory game check day they will estimate. They may not like it, but just tell them you were 2 miles from the truck. As long it doesn't look like you are trying to pass off a doe for a buck or vice versa is what they really worry about.
