I was just looking at the TVA map for land in north Al an noticed some land East of Hobbs Island where Flint river runs into. I've never been to that area before but looks like a decent area and maybe a few places that could be difficult to get to without a boat. Anyone know if it gets pressured much or if its worth going to check out?

I asked some tva guys about it once. They said "That's where we send people we don't like." Never was quite sure what that meant and they didn't elaborate.
“Killing tomorrow’s trophies today.”
On the distance I like to walk to my stands: “The first 100 yards is also the last 100 yards.”

Yes I've hunted it for deer ducks and squirrels. It's heavily pressured for squirrels to the point that I quit hunting it. Late season could be better after the squirrel hunters slow down. I've heard that late season deer look to it for sanctuary when the surrounding areas are pressured. I've not hunted it for deer past December so I can't attest to that ... I just heard it from another hunter

I've hunted it once because I was told there were some rabbits around there. We had some real sketchy meth heads come up to us in the woods, we never went back. Was probably Rocket trying to get me away from the squirrels

I hunted it for several years (a lot). It used to be a really good place, they logged it a few years back and it never really was the same. There is a little sliver on the north west side of the bridge that runs along the river and a club, it opens up a few hundred yards in. I killed several bucks in there right at daylight and dark coming off the corn fields. Either way though there are lots of does to hunt during open permit doe days.
It is what it is.

I killed my first buck on that property and it scored roughly 150 inches. That was a long time ago. It used to be really good. However, I have to agree with AC870. I live in area and it's called Cloud's Cove. ONE WAY IN, ONE WAY OUT. LOL!!!

Not trying to highjack this post, but are there any decent places to deer hunt around that area without going up to the Skyline WMA or over to Wheeler?

I don't think it is now. I stopped going down there because every time I went I would see someone walking around in the woods or riding 4wheelers.

Although I will say I have seen plenty of dead deer on the side of the part of Hobbs Island that is cutting through that TVA land...

If anyone is interested here are some pics taken off that island across from CC launch ... SlideShow Note the watermarks on the trees, 8 ft up. When the water rises there it can go up a foot an hour and get you in real trouble real quick

If you go to the TVA map there is all sort of TVA land scattered up the river from Scottsboro to Guntersville. There is bound to be some decent hunting on some of it.

I've duck hunted that many times when it would get out of the banks ride up in there and hunt and use to ride up the Paint Rock too but that was back when people didn't care quite as much if you did that. No TVA land up the Paint Rock really. Think the deer hunting would get crowded. I'd look at the TVA maps and there are some other hidden spots around there. One on the other side of the river from the mouth of the Flint I use to duck hunt and always saw some deer.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
