demp17 OP 10 point Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 3,911 North Bama	I was blessed beyond measure yesterday as I got to watch my 5 year son harvest his first deer. He loves the outdoors and has been going hunting with me since he was 3 and yesterday it all perfectly fell into place. We went to a big acorn flat that my dad and I have left alone all season, its loaded with white oaks and the deer are just wearing it out. Drake and I made the 400 yard trek up the mountain and settled in an old blow down with the AR in hand. I brought out the 40lbs of snacks and got him comfortable for the evening sit. After we got all setup I brought out my phone and we went over shot placement on all the deer images I downloaded. Then he went back to eating. Around 345 I noticed a deer slipping around the acorn flat and got Drake up and ready, we normally set the AR on the field pod but this old blow down was perfect for him to set the gun on the tree so that's what he did. The buck could not have worked any better to us. He gradually got to about 50 yards and was slightly quartering to us, I told Drake to let him get side ways then shoot. He couldn't wait and Drake fired, the buck mule kicked then took off up the mountain. I thought I heard the deer crash not far from us but I wasn't sure. He was excited and I was in panic hoping that he made a good shot. We waited for about 15 minutes, bout all I or him could handle, and started the tracking job. The deer didn't run 40 yards and he made a perfect double lung shot and the celebrating began. His paw paw was only a few hundred yards away and he came and joined the celebration as well.
