During my tenure at Academy, I attended a lot of hunts hosted by manufacturers like Strike King and Mossy Oak. The Mossy Oak boys do it right and still hunt the way I like to hunt. But I was totally turned off by a hunt hosted by StealthCam at the Nooner Ranch in Hondo, TX. Sammy Nooner is the first deer breeder to pay over $1Million for a breeder buck. I asked ahead of time and was told that portions of the ranch were free range and other portions high fenced. So I accepted. Turned out to be all high fence. Some "hunting" enclosures were as small at 100 acres. Total canned hunt in my opinion. I did the gracious guest routine and hung around camp, but no way was I shooting anybody's domesticated livestock under the guise of hunting. One of the invitees shot a 170" buck and StealthCam gladly paid the $9,600 trophy fee. A group of 180-class bucks were feeding behind the lodge while Sammy and I sat on the back porch. He said, "Don't you want to kill a buck like that? You are welcome to." I replied, "Yes sir I do want to kill a buck like that, but only if it is under free range fair chase conditions." To this day I have no appetite for Outdoor Channel shows built around this kind of "hunt." You have better self control than I do. I would have shot one and let them pay for it. I might even name it cow or something. Then there was the hunt I attended at Ray Murski's ranch in Meridian, TX. His ranch was just about 6,000 acres high fenced. I accepted the invite based on my opinion that it would be fair chase hunting that size area. Well, by daylight the next morning I'm looking at 38 racked bucks in a greenfield. I turn to the guide and ask, "does every deer on this ranch have a tag in its ear?" He says, "Oh yeah. Every one of these deer is pen raised and then released." I asked if there was any place where I could hunt a free range deer, and he said yes. He took me to an unfenced area of the ranch and I killed a nice 10 point that is considered inferior by their standards, but I was glad to have harvested him on my terms. It turned out to be win-win because Ray graciously accommodated me and I didn't shoot his pen raised livestock.

Exactly my feelings as well WB. That's the reason I hunt public land as much as I do. I don't see what public land has to do with not hunting high fence

Somebody call or text him and get his azz back on here to defend himself like a man
There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??

Y'all didn't run him off already did y'all??? Least he lasted a little longer than timber. I'll gladly take credit for being the first to mention it turning out like Timbers post so I'll go ahead and add his big pen comment quote to my sig Better back up and punt....SuperSpike gets the credit on this one. I sent him a text. I think they have to be processed through timber2 before they can be released. Well I was really joking around with that but unfortunately this turned out bad for him. I wish guys on here would just be straight with their kills and they won't have to go into hiding because of public humiliation. I'm happy for the guy on his kill regardless but now it's going to be hard for him to enjoy the moment because of stretching the truth. Just do like me, don't kill big deer and you won't have to worry about all of this.

We're gonna need to pull a vile of his blood and test for P.E.S's. I bet he test positive for performance enhancing storyiods.

The free range side is absolutely beautiful!! I was sitting on a mountain side towards the top part and you look down into the bottom. Killed at my good buddy's place in Pelham called Double Mountain preserve. He has high fence and free range. Really good genes grant and kent upton have gotten put together at their farm. So was this a high fence or free range kill? There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around?? This is the dumbest crap I've ever read. Congratulations on killing a buck in a barrel in a high fence free range pen. You are the great white hunter. More like the great white hype. Did you rattle and call him up? As in shaking a bucket of feed, not using rattling antlers and holllering "C'moan boy, heyuh, heyuh? That's how I call the cows in our high (65") fence cattle operation. We have a small high fence operation where the head catch is, then a large free range high fence operation where the pasture is. For $5000 I can guarantee you a shot at a piebald Simmental bull. He's currently in the small high fence breeding stud pen, but I'll put him in the large 100 acre high fence area so it will be sporting when you shoot him.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

I bet he has a pet cat too. I'm just now catching up, and after all that, I can't quit laughing about a pet cat

I bet corn flies everywhere with a neck shot on a free range big pen bruiser
He's recycling the corn, going green in the big pen. Johnny

He's obviously using the poultry farmer definition of free range. It's in a pen, but the pen allows him to go outside, so it must be free range.
