Should have clarified. I mean the person with a stock 289 rotating assembly with the biggest cam they can find, single plane intake, and a 850 double pumper. Then they put it in a stock mustang with stock trans and converter and want to street it. End up with nothing but problems trying to get it to run correctly. It's easy to get caught up in the horsepower race. OH YEAH! I've seen that one a lot!

On a cast iron head I would say anything 9.8 -10.2 is border line useing high grade pump gas you can lower your compression some with a thicker head gasket . You will have watch your timing somewhere around 34 degrees I would think If those heads have been milled a couple times already by previous owners it gets higher, I would definetly check for that if I didn't absolutely know the history. I agree with sticking to flat tops
