I didn't know that our neighboring landowner, who is well known for tying one on every evening, was sitting behind me. Later that night, somehow he tracked me down to my girlfriend's (now wife) parent's house by phone. His speech was slurred and he was obviously lit. He was fussing about not telling anyone about that deer because we will never be able to keep poachers away. He said they have been letting him go so he could be a breeder. Said they named him Fred. All I could do is respond "Well Fred's dead."

Fred is on the right.

Damn I like ole Fred lol. Deer on the left aint no slouch, but Fred makes him look bad..

I took a co-worker that had never killed a big deer and he killed the one on the left. he was as proud as a person could be......until we picked up Fred. Took the wind right out of his sails. That was an MLK Birthday holiday in the early 90s or so. I have 1993 stuck in my mind. Ever since then that day has always been viewed as the best hunting day for us. For many consecutive years someone always killed a big, mountable buck on MLK Day.

I've killed my buck the last two years on January 18th, MLK holiday might be worthless but I'm glad it's there so I can hunt
