I've hunted it before with bow but never had any success. Seen plenty, but nothing to write home about. We hunted Monday morning and I watched a spirited spike chase a doe and hoped for bull winkle to walk out and give the spike a boot but left empty handed. Today, we planned on hunting an area we previously scouted on top of a big ridge, about a mile from the truck. We packed the truck and left out this morning at 3:25. We get to our spot and begin our trek up the hill. We get to the top and start seeing fresh scrapes, then a few yards father a few fresh rubs. FIL said we should hunt here instead on continuing our walk to the honey hole. I found a nice pine about 40 yards away on a crossing ridge. I get up the tree and settled, looked at the clock, 5:22. I knew it wasn't going to be light enough to see any time soon due to the clouds so I got comfortable and had a little quiet time, thanking the good Lord for such an awesome creation and the ability to enjoy it. I checked the clock again, 6:05. Starting to get a little better, I can see 30 yards and can make out trees fairly easily. I think I catch movement but decide my eyes are playing tricks on me. Next thing I know, I see a buck about 40 yards away and moving my direction. I pull up the scope and can see 3 points on his left side. A good 6 point if he's got 3 on the other side. He comes to within 15 yards, broadside. I decided then I couldn't leave empty handed so I squeezed the trigger. I see nothing but fire in my scope. He runs off and piles up out of sight. My FIL radioes, did you get him? Yea I got a nice 6 point. He heads to me and we track him. He walks up on him and start counting. 10 POINT!! By far my best buck and have only the good Lord to thank for him. And a great FIL as a guide.
