Next year I'm going to add a cultipacker to the arsenal. This will be strictly used for food plotting. I know I want a 3 point but I'm not sure of the wheel size. I see the most common ones for sale have either a 9" or 15" wheels. The 9" wheels typically have notches and the 15" are usually smooth. We have sandy soil if that makes any difference. There isn't much info that I could find online. Can anyone give some guidance as to which size wheels will better serve my purpose? FWIW, I have a 38 hp 4x4 Kubota tractor.

Bambam I have an 8' Brillion cultipacker with the 15" sand wheels. It works very well for me from south Bama to the Midwest.

A buddy and I have a project cultipacker we plan to finish up after the first of the year. It will be 8' 3pt unit if interested.

I would get the larger wheels. Probably will last longer. I have the larger ones and they are notched. It is a 6' tuffline model. This was my first season using it and it did very well. Your tractor should handle it fine. It is a little difficult on a 20hp tractor with no brakes.

It be's that way sometimes.

We have some tight spots and an 8 footer wouldn't fit. Thanks though.

Did your cultipacker cover the seed adequately or did you cover before packing?

I've run the 9" and the large 12(13)" Sand Wheels and Pulverizer type wheels. Sand Wheels are the notched and the pulverizer type is the smooth (both type come in the small and large sizes) The 9" will cover just as good as the large, the weight of the packer will have more to do with putting the seed in the ground. Both type work well and make a good looking plot.

It did very well. I used a 4' drag before I purchased the cultipacker. I think the packer did a better job. It will smooth the plots real nice as well.

I bought an 8ft 3pt hitch from Lowery Equipment in boaz and it does a great job. Using it and planting like I used to just covering the seed with a disc my food plots look way better using a culitpacker.
