Standing on an intersection of road and a pipeline talking with a buddy, spike jumped road down from us, my cousin was walking up the road and saw it an shot but missed but nearly hit us (we were young) deer came out 300 yards down pipeline ran across I threw up rifle and followed but couldn't get crosshairs on him, at the edge of woods he stopped and looked at me , boom dropped right in tracks 300 yards free hand right in heart, lucky shot with my first deer rifle smith and Wesson model 1500 .270 still have the gun maybe one day it will be valuable think they only made them 4 years

I was 15 and went to Pickens county with a buddy from school as his Dad's guest. They ran dogs and when I heard them getting close I stood on a fallen tree in my borrowed Carhartt brown coveralls and a hunter orange burglar looking toboggan (not a stitch of camouflage) raised my Remington 12 gauge 1100 with 00 buck and shot a big 150lb cowhorn spike. The old driver walked up soon after. I told him if he would tote my gun, I would throw it around my shoulders and tote it out. The seasoned veteran deer hunter said boy if you can do that he would tote my gun and buy me a steak dinner. Haha I obviously had never had to drag or tote a dead deer. I will never forget that. Funny part was my friend played Offensive tackle later on at MTSU actually toted that deer out that way. We was hunting a 110 acre patch was pretty nasty because of a tornado.

Killed my first at 9 yo with my uncle on hatchet Creek hc running dogs. Single shot 20 ga that my dad, 2 uncles, 3 cousins and my self killed their first deer with. It's the most valuable gun in my safe.

15 years old with a Remington 1100 while stalk hunting. Shot a big doe while she was bedded down. I had just about walked by her and saw her ear move out of the corner of my eye. Hooked on hunting since. and that was in 75. 41 years ago. Datum, I'm old.

1975. Doe with a 20ga. H&R. First day of season as I recall. The only illegal deer I have ever killed also.

My first deer was a 7pt. I shot slipping out ahead of the drivers on Elrod Hunting Club in Tuscaloosa County on November 26, 1983. I was using my Paw Paw's Revelations Model 400 12ga. with Winchester 2/4" 00 buckshot. The gun belonged to my great grandfather at one point as well. One month before my Paw Paw passed away in 1991, he gave it to me.

My Pastor took me out to one of his small shooting houses overlooking a quarter acre good plot. Cow horn spike walked out at 20 yards. Chip shot with my Savage 110 .270. That was ten years ago and I've been hooked ever since.

Single shot 12 guage, 9 years old sittin in a shooting house, watching a greenfield with my dad at our old Elm Bluff Hunting club. The doe came out at about 45 yards and she fell where she stood. We walked out, had a little celebration, then thanked God for her with a prayer. Itll be a day Ill never forget.

23 years ago in AL. Had 4 does come into a hardwood bottom and I was in a short maybe 12 foot ladder stand. They were within 20 yards and it was my last hunt before going home. I was frustrated from 3 years of hunting without killing a deer. I spent a week of hunting without seeing many deer. I was shaking in the cold trying to move my rifle without making noise and scaring them off. Picked out the biggest doe and put the scope on her neck. .308 dropped her in her tracks. It hooked me on deer hunting for life.

Doe in the Late 80's

About 10 years old, late 70's, on a dog drive at sipsey river hunting club in Greene County. Little 4 point came out on me at about 20 yards while I was sitting on a logging road. Gun was a browning 16 gauge auto. I shot five times at that deer between 20 and 30 yards and only managed too put a couple of buckshot in him. But those couple were enough b/c he only went about 100 yards. The club had a rule they would pay to mount the largest buck killed each season so I got it mounted for free b/c mine was the largest. If I remember correctly, my dad was paying $25 a year to be in that club. How times have changed

8 yrs old. Sitting 20 ft up in very scary permanent stand mad from 2x6s and some cable. Sitting with my grandpa. M1 .30 cal carbine. Got a spike

Single shot 16 ga on a small family dog drive at my grandfathers. 3 point buck that was blind in one eye. We put it on the hood of my uncles car we grove it around showing it off.

Remington 1100, 12ga, mod. barrel. Using 2 3/4in 00 buckshot. On Nov. 3rd, 1987 on a dog drive on the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp in southeast Georgia. I shot the buck at 1:30 in the afternoon in a cypress pond that was left standing on the edge of a fresh cutover. Dropped him with one shot at about 50yds. All the men in the club said he was old. He had alluded them the two previous weeks by cutting through the cypress pond and crossing the road by the dog drivers trucks. So, they posted me there to cut him off. I was in a full body shake when I shot him as he was proudly trotting through that dry pond. Buck fever had set in REAL BAD.

2 years ago today actually. Doe with Ruger American .308. She was slipping across a fallow field about 7:30 that morning with a couple yearlings with her. She was harvested from the land my granddad grew up on, which made it more special.
