I'm hoping to record the bama Bigfoot episode tonight but I probably can't because it's sprinkling rain and a slight breeze outside.

As far as threatening to cancel to get the bill lower,I've heard that works with Direct,not so well with Dish.I don't want to make a threat if I'm not willing to actually pull the plug. My buddy told me to do that. I tried it once with directtv and they said "bye" and hung up I had to call back and beg for my previous deal back. Never again

Direct's receiver technology is WAY behind Dish's. The Genie doesn't have squat on the Hopper3. Genie can record 4 or 5 shows at one time. The Hopper3 can record 16 (who would need to record that many at once, I don't know...but the capability is there). The Genie holds like 200 hours of HD programming. The Hopper3 holds 500 hours.
I swapped from Direct to Dish about 10 months ago, and haven't looked back. Same programming, with better equipment, for $40 less a month...and that price is guaranteed for 3 years.
At some point in the future, when I get tired of getting jacked around on price increases by Dish, I'll swap back to Direct. Hopefully, they will have caught up by then.

How hard can it be to keep a satellite in geosynchronous orbit beaming signals to a 20" dish on my roof?

Never again You're not doing something right, I've got mine lowered twice. Most recently in November by 50 bucks. They went up on me by $50, I called and raised hell , told them I wanted the same package for the price I had or I'll walk. Told them I had about 4 options other than them for TV. Feller found that 50 in a hurry!

Dish DVR is excellent. Direct TV channel guide sucks! Direct makes you scroll through PPV to go between locals and the other channels.

I have directv and like it mine the only time it ever goes out is when there is a huge storm and then it only lasts for a minute or so, I had dish a long time ago and back then it was awful and customer service was crap so we switched to directv, they both cost way too much but it's either use them or an antenna where we live...

I have worked in the industry for the last 13 years and if mine were not free this is what i would do... I would pay for a high speed internet of some sort, cable is most of the time the most reliable, and then get netflix or a firestick or something like that and watch what i want when i want. that is just my .02 We currently have Dish and, have for the last ten yrs or so.My wife is wanting to change to Direct TV.Has anyone ever switched and been satisfied with Direct ? We can get a package with a few more channels for a few dollars less each month with Direct.

a couple of years ago AT&T offered a wirless LTE access point that would go in a NID on the side of your house. I am not sure if they are still offering that or not but that would be something to look into. Also I know that the state of Alabama will be getting some grants to build some FTTH (Fiber to the Home) networks in the near future. last i checked a couple of years ago if you wanted the outdoor channels on direct it was an extra $20 a month compared to like $4.99 a month on dish. I stuck with dish. Dish outdoor channels are HD too.
