Uh oh, you've done it now. You've said a GM product is giving you trouble. Cue the crowd that will claim to have a 2004 Tahoo with 8 million miles, never had an oil change, still has the original tires and spark plugs, pulled a battle ship for the Navy once, only put gas in it every 10,000 miles (because its THAT good) and its stronger than any car on the NASCAR circuit.

But you're still the queer with handlebars for ears.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

AFM (active fuel management) is notorious for giving problems. As someone already mentioned, it usually starts with lifters and possibly a camshaft.

Does it use any oil?

It is very noticeable and the service stabilitrack and traction control off messages come on as well. It does use oil, but don't most Tahoe's!

Will do, I probably won't have a chance to do anything with it this week but hope to next week.

haleyville al,
Don't these have a plastic intake? Reason I ask. Uncle spent a ton of money trying to find out what was wrong with his f150. After every thing was replaced it was a crack in the intake causing it go crazy.

Most good shops have the capability to do what you were needing done as far as scanners. Believe it or not I've had the exact same issues with my old 99 Tahoe and taking the same steps that you have as far as trying to fix it. It still has a hesitation occasionally for no ryme or reason.

Chevy v8 usually doesn't have much trouble with this. First thing to do on a Ford or GM 3800 missing for no reason is put a smoke machine on it and check intake and intake gaskets.

Also on the older vortecs like mine the spider injection is an issue. Is that one similar or or cdpi?

TC, I'm not sure what cdpi is but it does not have a spider injector. It has a rail on either side with the injectors mounted to it and then through the port on the manifold. I have not had a chance to do anything with it and probably won't until next week. I hope to take it in and get it tested to see if I can figure something out.
