I just had a phone interview with a Finnish company that went awesome.
Thursday morning I have a Face to Face interview with the Southern Regional Manager in Montgomery.
My territory would be in the Birmingham area assuming I land the job.

I know Birmingham proper in terms of living is likely best avoided and the surrounding suburbs are where you want to be.

I frankly know very little about Birmingham, where is a good area for a recent college grad that has decent cost of living, convenience, low crime etc.

Thanks for the input.

Certain areas of Birmingham proper are not bad. If I was a young single guy, I would live downtown.
The part of crestwood that backs up to Crestline (near Saw's BBQ Juke Joint) is not bad and close to everything.

If you are married and want to keep mama happy, then Homewood, Vestavia, Trussville, etc. are good suburbs for raising a family.

Stay away from the areas east of Birmingham, especially the Moody/Odenville area. I hear there are some crazy folks that live out there.

Id recommend Helena if you own a helicopter of if they built a bullet train. Nice town but terrible traffic at peak times. The hoover area around valleydale road and Caldwell mill is a nice area with a lot of options.

I will need to first land the job then begin to work out specifics.
This is an amazing opportunity that I have had come my way indirectly through an Aldeer friendship.

Things sometimes have an odd way of working out.

I just might be your new neighbor lol

My girlfriends Uncle who some of the older guys on here very likely might know or have had run ins with lives in the Pell City area.
Depending on where the territory ends up being that could also be a good option.
I know Pell City is suposed to be nice.

Hopefully you can see through their jest and Odenville and Moody are actually good areas. ;D The good thing about Pell City is you can live on the lake.

All of this is good info. They are building lofts and condos on the southside as quick as they can. Bunch of people are moving down there. As long as you don't have kids or you can afford to send them to private school.

As long as you like not having many good places to eat or bars to drink at, you'll love it there!

Hoover proper is probably the cheapest/most centrally located that is safe. You have to be real careful about apartments anywhere in Bham though. Even down 280, some are great while the ones next door are full of Mexicans.

If I was single or without kids, I would live downtown, no doubt. There are some great lofts and condos.

If that isn't your thing, crestwood and Crestline park are good areas with affordable housing and a lot of other young people.

If you have kids, then you need to look somewhere else unless you plan to send them to private school. Mountain Brook, Vestavia, Homewood, Trussville and the Oak Mountain area are all nice places with good schools. No way I would personally live in Hoover.

Avoid anywhere down 280 in my opinion if you have to be somewhere during normal commute times. Same with Helena.

If you're single and wanting to mingle, downtown or Avondale/Highland Park/Forest Park. If you plan on settling down somewhere, Homewood, Trussville, Vestavia, 280 part of Hoover are all good options. If you want to live outside the city and don't mind a commute, Moody/Odenville/Alabaster/Helena/Chelsea are all good options.

Good info here.

Downtown, Lakeview, Avondale, Crestwood, Cresltine Park.

All seriousness I live in Moody and love it. I can be about anywhere in Birmingham within 33 minutes, Tuscaloosa in about an hour and ten minutes, Logan Martin in about 15 and my hunting property in less than two hours that is in Pickens County. There are good schools here, low crime, housing is reasonable and people are genuinely pretty nice. Just my opinion.

McCalla is Jefferson County.

I love how people who have never lived in Jefferson County run it down so much. I would love for one person to give me a real reason no to live in Jefferson County. The absolutely best schools anywhere around Birmingahm and really in the State are in Jefferson County.

I don't mean any disrespect, but Jefferson County could be one of the more if no not the most dysfunctional counties as a whole in the state. Mcalla is a great place and the exception. I believe most of the schools are run by municipalities, Gardendale, Trussville, and others. I could be wrong but I believe this to be true. Taxes are ridiculous as well according to my in-laws that live in Leeds. There are exceptions like Mcalla, Trussville and Gardendale.
