There are some great places now downtown...homewood is way too expensive (even more so than vestavia and others now)5 points area is cool and lakeview area...Avondale area is getting safer and safer/really coming up now I've enjoyed hanging around Avondale the past few days with friends. Seems like a cool area. You been to fancys on 5th? One of my fav spots...also heard a ton about post office pies...

Fancy's is great try the crab claws! Post office pies is ok I've had better. We really like Sunday brunch at Rowes try the chicken and waffles. The Hot Box located inside Parkside is really good, try the lemon grass chicken.
NOW is the time for all GOOD men to come to the aid of their country.

I hear about post office pies, but have also heard its not as good as people say.

Here you go 7-08, this is all you need. But if it were me and I was starting fresh I would figure out where you want to live and then get a job versus getting a job that dictates where you live. I know financially that can be tough but it is worth it to live where you want. http://judgmentalmaps.com/image/82389714893 I've seen that map several times and it pretty much nails it!

If I were a college grad..I would find a loft apartment downtown, like the ones they are putting in the old Pizitz building that place is very nice... Not cheap though I have heard $2500 per month but I don't know that for sure...

I'm sure that is a nice apartment but there is no way in Gods name I am spending $30,000 yearly in rent living in an apartment in Birmingham, Alabama. Spending half of that sounds significantly appealing and likely for my needs and wants.

The Hot Box located inside Parkside is really good, try the lemon grass chicken. Buddy of mine is a bartender/owner at Parkside. It's a cool place. My wife and sister have been to Fancy's twice and loved it. I have yet to go. I'll have to check out Rowe's for brunch. Haven't heard of that one.

I am not sure that is the price for them, it could be the price for the food stall restaurants that are on the ground floor, $2500 seem a tad high for Birmingham. The ground floor will have 9 restaurants and a big bar in the center, pretty cool set up for a single person, plus Publix just opened a store down town so you don't have to fool with traffic to go shop for groceries...

The lofts downtown start around $1300 for a 1br, and are anywhere from $1600-$3k for a 2+br. That sounds a lot more realistic. $1500'ish a month by the time you factor in utilities etc is still a good bit. I guess I've just been spoiled paying $425 with utilities for my tiny old apartment.

If you move to bham and live by yourself, that ain't possible lol. I pay $500/mo with everything included and have a roommate that pays the same for a 2bd/1ba in Forest Park. If you have any questions, I've shopped just about every apartment in Bham in the last two years, feel free to shoot me a PM.

I live in Hoover and have for close to 20 years, why are folks bashing Hoover. We love it. Currently we live in Hoover but are in Shelby Co, that's the best of both worlds. Also both high schools are exceptional systems. Maybe I am just blind to what is going on around me. However, the youth sports programs are all top notch. Plenty of really nice places to eat. Great churches to choose from. Neighborhoods of various price ranges. Etc. I lived in Riverchase for several years (Shelby County part of Hoover) and loved it. Lorna Rd. is the reason Hoover gets a bad rap.

Ya my current rent is $365 a month for my 1br "efficiency unit" and I'm a 1/2 mile from the stadium. Power runs $30-60. Pay my neighbor $20 for the wifi password $500 for everything isn't bad. I have no clue if Forest Park is good or bad but ya $500 isn't bad at all.
