I don't remember Sam Houstons. We used to drink at Clyde Houstons and Rube Burrows, Louie's, Dugan's, The Burly Earl, The Nick, Norms, Marty's, Smacky's deli, Club South. Dang, I spent a lot of time in bars. My bad, it was Clyde Houston's. I also spent some time in the Underground Plaza and that old pool hall across from The Pickwick hotel in Southside.

Didn't the Plaza close for a while several years ago, and this is a second go'round for it?

Man, what a nasty deathtrap. Smelled like puke every time I ever went there but so did Harry's, The Sidetrack, The Booth and pretty much every bar I ever went in in Tuscaloosa. If you spent enough time in any of them it became apparent why.

Underground Plaza was (is) awful. I got drug there a couple times by friends, and just couldn't see the attraction. Concrete walls, weirdos, graffiti, and a couple foosball tables. All over the scent of throw up. And no decent looking girls.

As far as I know, the Crazy Horse is still on Morris Ave. Boom boom room at Eastwood Mall. Lowenbrau in Homewood. (spent lots of time there sitting and talking with Emmie Lou.) 3 On A String was popular there, too. Not far from Edgewood Blvd. either, where we spent a lot of time talking to Mr. Linch. Seems like yesterday.

And BTW I'm fairly disturbed that a handful of people on a deer hunting forum know enough about Underground Plaza to be conversant! It's been about 25 years since I was in there or any of the others I mentioned but I'm sure I've forgot a few others I used to frequent. The Nick was probably the most diverse, eccentric of the bunch.

Seems like yesterday. There isn't a crazy horse on Morris now or anytime that I have frequented it. Must have been a long time ago. I grew up going to Eastwood mall, only bar I know around there was next to the bowling alley. You must be a lot older than me.

Man, what a nasty deathtrap. The Plaza was originally under the western on highland avenue. The sign was upside down, hence the name. It closed and moved to the basement of the pickwick hotel in the late 1980s. I am one of the few people under 50 that ever went to the original. My uncle lived on highland and was a regular. When I would stay with him, he took me up there. I was maybe 12 the first time I went in there.

I have two bass club buddies that live out that way. Nice area, but I wouldn't want to deal with Caldwell Mill, Valleydale, or 280. Its not too bad. We can get in and out fairly quick where we live. If you think about it, we have 4 different ways to come and go, so that really helps out a lot.

Bibb County, sounds like we are close. I am in the same area, Heatherwood. I live in Altadena woods, about as close as you can get ! Yep, so I guess a "Howdy neighbor" is in order.

What was the name of the club in the white building on Green Springd across from the softball park? It had live bands and stayed open till the sun came up. I spent a hours in that place.
I think it's a window tinting place now. Norm's; watched some well known local sportscaster cop some coke there one night.
