I have a Pedro that works for me I asked him and he said the significance of the orange peels is probably they couldn't find any marigold flowers so they just peeled some oranges and used them instead. The marigolds are supposed to guide the sprits to their alter.

And white Mums.

Then he looked at me like I was some kind of idiot for not knowing that. grin

The plot thickens.

Yea I an't no florist but I think white mums turns purple when they start to die.

Look back at the picture of the mums laying on the ground... turning purple.

Not sure what I'd do really. We definitely have ourselves a situation.

That and still no Gary reference. Thus my disappointment continues to mount.

Since when does the law not show up right away when there is report of a possible body in a shallow grave. That makes no damn since to me. I guess I missed what County this is in, but I would make sure somebody was checking it out within the hour if it was me.

It's your property just go dig the mound up. Sheesh. If you find a box or a body then stop digging, take photographs, and call the police. I bet that would get them there faster.

Either somebody died there, or there is somebody dead there.

Sounds like the retired DA didn't actually tell them what was going on. Hard for me to believe that any police dept would piddle around if you told them you think you found a shallow grave..

Get out there with a shovel first thing in the AM. If you find a body I bet that place will be swarming with people within the hr.

Yes the deputy put eyes on the site and from what I understand he's about to retire so he probably didn't want the headache.
The DA did speak with the chief deputy and did express his concern that there was a body there and got the reply that they'd contact me asap so yes asap doesn't mean what it used to or it could be that they know that illegals are involved and are in no hurry.
I wont go out there and start digging to find anything especially a body because I've seen enough dead bodies in my life already

They probably don't want to fool with all the redtape of dealing with an illegal Mexican, let alone a dead one.

Dang deadeye I just realized you are in Northport. Now I'm really curious where this is.

In the LEOs defense, they get calls like this all the time that turn out to be nothing. We once had to investigate a call of a dead baby in a dumpster the day after Thanksgiving. Yep, you guessed it, it was a carcass alright, a turkey carcass. Another time we got called to a fetus in a sewer. Sure enough, open the manhole and their is a perfectly formed fetus about 6 inches long lying there. We finally determined it was a miscarriage from a teen whose family didn't know she was pregnant. Since it was a miscarriage and the fetus was not viable, the DA didn't pursue any charges. Sometimes the strange calls do lead to something.

My point is that they may be tied up on something big right now that can't be dropped over a case that, even if it is a body, probably won't develop into a major crime and it is not likely that any evidence is going to be lost this quickly anyways. If it is something, a day or to probably won't matter after this amount of time, IF it is at the expense of a serious major case. Part of good LE is prioritizing, and satisfying our curiosity, mine as much as anybody's, is not high on their priority list.

However, it is something that needs to be looked into and not just brushed off with a "don't go digging up old bones" (excuse the poor, but appropriate, pun) attitude. If you don't hear from them soon, as in a day or two, call the retired DA back and tell him to let them know you are going to call the press and let them ask why it wasn't looked into. This won't make friends, but I bet it will get action.

A good investigator is someone that is naturally curious about things. These situations are the type of thing that make me wish I was still in the game, then I turn on the news and know why I am glad I got out when I did.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The best I can tell you for privacy sake is watch the news for the next couple days and lets see what happens.
Maybe they'll call tomorrow
