Depends on what you are protecting yourself from. I carried a public defender with birdshot just for snakes for years. Now hogs are my main concern. G19 is what I tote. With a good holster, you should'nt be worried about carrying a semi auto ready for action

Bro, if you can't kill the largest target possible, why are you carrying?
Been here long enough to go from "bring 'da pain" to " bring 'da pain meds.

Just remember you usually get the quality you pay for. For personal protection i wouldn't go cheap! I generally carry a Glock 21sf in .45 or a G20 in 10mm

Have you tried the Poly Judge? It lightens the hip up a bit, but you still must realize you are still packing .45s and .410s.

I am seriously leaning towards this Century Arms Canik TP9SF 9mm. I just missed out on a deal for one for $285 and free shipping...
Full sized frame pistol Striker fired 19 rounds of 9mm 5 pound trigger Great reviews I've been eyeballing them as well. There is the elite model out now thats comparable in size to the G19. If you end up getting one I'd love to hear your feedback.

Get a Glock. To me the Keltec is junk, and most revolvers will be heavier than I would want. It would be hard to beat a Glock 19,or if you want a 45,the 30S which I much prefer over the 30.A good pistol like the Glock advantage over a stainless revolver is that weather won't be an issue, ever. Even stainless rusts but you won't have to be concerned about rain or sweat with the Glock.
I would recommend keeping the pistol loaded and chambered at all times. You will have no safety problems with a quality pistol like the Glock as long as you don't pull the trigger.I prefer a quality Kydex holster that covers the trigger. It will give the best retention and trigger protection without worrying about it getting, water, sweat, oil, fuel,or anything else on it and ruining it. I would buy an outside the waist band kydex holster that fastens on a belt, not a pancake style. I would want one that covers the barrel with only a slit open for water to run out.You don't want an open end holster for farm work. You don't want dirt to get in the barrel if you have to crawl under something.

A single action .45 in a cross draw holster is great for riding an atv or a horse. And it will stop any threat you might face in the woods.
