Never had any desire to do it. It always looked like the climb up might be as dangerous as jumping. (of course, it's Acapulco Rock that's jumped off of) Chimney Rock ain't no place for jumping. All true!

Ive jumped off that thing countless times. Every time its just as high as the first. Like yall said. It doesnt look high from the water but climb up there and look down its a different story. I had a buddy that jumped last summer and he landed leaning a little too far back and he was sore for a few days.

Extreme Heights Hunter,
What was your accident? Not sure if "accident" is the right word butt, I jumped 1st as soon as we got to the lake and landed in the sitting position and damn that hurt. Hurt my back and tailbone. I wasn't going to jump again but my buddies son went up to jump off the low platform and climbed right passed it. Well as some of you know, climbing down is very dangerous. I went up to help him climb back down and decided I would go all the way up one more time after I helped him. I'll be damned if I didn't land the exact same way. I knew I messed up instantly. Took all I had just to get back in the boat. My tailbone and back was hurtin for certain. I could barely walk. I spent the next few days sitting on the porch of the cabin drinking whiskey and taking pain pills. Normally pain pills make me puke but the whiskey helped keep it down I guess. I was in pain from that for the next year and a half. Could have been a lot worse.

As someone said it is actually Acapulco Rock and it is about 50 feet at least.
I got talked into jumping off of it when I first moved to Montgomery. When I got to the top and looked down I realized that it would be very foolish to jump off. Then two junior high school boys that were on top looked at me like I was chicken and they promptly jumped off back to back. So then I felt social pressure and jumped off. I landed just slightly angled back and it hurt bad. Gave me a strained neck like mild whiplash and interestingly it ripped a quarter size piece of skin right off my rear end. Strange thing is that it was almost perfectly round.
It seemed like I was falling for a long long time, that was the weird part for me and it made it hard for me to stay straight.

I know a local man who is a colleague, and I told that story to him back then and he told me that he jumped off when he was in high school, landed really bad and broke a lot of ribs, punctured a lung and almost died. Once they got him out of the water and back to shore he had to be flown out by helicopter to the hospital.

We spend a lot of time on the lake here. I will say I never even had the thought of jumping but have seen many, many do it. One of the coolest or craziest jumps I've seen where a guy scaled the face of chimney rock faster that most can go up chicken rock and go around. My Nieces Husband (loose cannon) will do a swan dive that will make the real Acapulco rock guys proud.
One of the wildest (other than some drunk chicks) is Pat Dye's Son mouthing off to some Tallassee rednecks, Pat's Son jumps in the water to swim over and whoop arse and one of the rednecks hits him in the forehead with a full Budweiser can and lays him open. Doesn't take the Marine PoPo long to get on something lik. like that either.

This is true but it's always been called "Chimney Rock" or at least for the 45 years I've been on the lake. Nobody ever said hey lets go to "Acapulco Rock". Jumped plenty of times between the late 70's thru the early 90's then I decided the fun was over. Now I jump off chicken rock once a year as a personal pilgramage but that will stop soon. Sad thing is now with all of the graffiti it looks like a inner city getto monument.

Chimney rock is easier to say Than Acapulco rock. Chimney rock is actually the island just just South of where people jump

I wanna say Smith Lake has a rock called chimney rock too. It's been several years since we jumped but I remember it not being far from the castle.
NOW is the time for all GOOD men to come to the aid of their country.
