I have noticed that some pears have very few blooms this year also. What do I need to spray my plum tree with to kill that*%$#@# moth that lays eggs in my fruit and when? Neem oil helps with some insect, fungal, and bacterial infestations. Never spray anything while the pollinators are doing their things, but before and after is fine. ANY fruit that drops should be picked up and removed...that's how the moth larvae get back into the ground to continue their lifecycle. Keeping a hog/pig and running him through the orchard to clean up dropped fruit is one way some people handle that...some people also use geese and/or guineas in the orchard for insect control and, as an added bonus, weed control.

I just looked. We got like 520 hours Just 405 hours, here. My Granny Smith apples are blooming, but I'm not holding out much hope for fruitset. The Anna and Ein Shemer apples will be fine, and I think that's plenty of hours for my pears, plums, etc., though they either haven't started or are just barely starting to break dormancy, right now.

Where do you look up how many chill hours your area got?

No need to worry about chill hours in a few days, everything in south Bama is gonna be toast. My blueberries and pears are in full bloom and the nuts, other than pecan, and figs were leafing out. 30 degrees is really gonna stink. Yep, all my plums are in full bloom right now and we're looking at upper 20's tonight. I wonder though, is it the cold that hurts blooms, or the frost? If the winds keeps up at 15 to 20 mph like predicted, we probably won't get a frost at least.

I have a couple Granny Smith and Ein Shemer apples blooming, and Satsumas...everything else is just barely beginning to break dormancy. We're only forecast to get down to 31°, with a 5 mph wind, so they should be ok.
