Sounds like somebody was fishing near the dam to get a sack that size this time of year.
With a bright moon a buzz bait works well night fishing too.
What type/size blade were you using?

yeah i used a midnight special spinnerbait with a big colorado blade on it...had a black and blue skirt! the guy who caught that sack said he went up into new lake and brought out all largemouth! would a trailer of some kind work or increase my odds any? I used the buzzbait some to try and cover some water but with no luck! Yeah the full moon had a big factor on the fish

My favorite night lures for big bass are a black hula popper or black jitterbug.
It takes a long time to grow an old friend.

Most of the time if I am throwing a blade at night I am using a black/red with a number 5 colorado blade. I like the War Eagle spinnerbaits, but I will replace the factory blades with Arbogast #5's. I think those blades give off more and faster vibration than a larger blade.
I use trailers, but to be honest I have not seen a huge difference in the number or size of the fish I catch. I will tell you that some nights those fish will hit the bait just enough to pull the trailer the off or just bump the blade.
I throw my night baits on braided line for the increase in line sensitivity. You can feel a fish fart in the water with that line.

Did you fish the 6 to midnight or the 7 to 1? We fished the later, caught two fish and at midnight put the boat on the trailer and headed home! Fishing for us absolutely was horrible...
