i have texted and called for two years and gotten no response from him, starting to make myself go up there and ask him if he lost it or something.

Way more patient than I would be. If it isn't done in 13 months a fellow should be texting customers and keeping them updated.

you would think if you want to keep a good reputation you would answer your phone or call your customer back...

Posts like this drive me nuts. There's no reason whatsoever to keep a deer that long.

Sounds like there's a lot of available work out there for some of y'all Quick Turnaround Taxidermy folks.

really? that the best back hand comment you could come up with? give me a damn break. if a business man can`t get his shucks together good enough for respectable turn around times, he needs to go work for someone who can run a business.

Go get your antlers, (your cape is likely toast) and take them to Steven Cavendar in Heflin. www.Brought2lifetaxidermy.com

So you think 36 months is normal?

Nope. I don't think 36 months is normal.

Just a clear statement: with all the constant bitching on here about long taxidermy waiting times long to some people apparently being more than a couple of months there's obviously a huge amount of business to be capitalized upon for someone who is good and fast.

I thought I'd get blasted in the "other" thread if I commented anymore. But life is way too short to wait 2 or 3 years for a mount.

Also, back when I went to deer expos, 90% of the deer brought to them were killed the previous season. Not every mount was great. Some were bad. But there were loads of high quality mounts that only had 6 to 7 month turnaround time. You guys that think you need 2 years for quality work are just wrong.

Russ Harris Taxidermy in Troy has done most of my work for the past 10 years. Good quality. Fair price. I have gotten some shoulder mounts back in as fast as one month.

I have shoulder mount that was done in one month. Not the best job but not the worst. The hair between the antlers doesn't lay right. I had a guy tell me whoever mounted it probably pulled a stitch too tight. It doesn't bother me much though and with it hanging on the wall you can't tell it so it is what it is.

A story my uncle told me one time was where he was teaching a seminar and the guy before him got a little long winded which left him with almost no time to show folks how to do a shoulder mount from start to finish. He said he had that deer mounted and drying in an hour and 6 minutes. I agree with EHH. I'll add one more thing too. If you make your customers wait that long, you obviously don't need to be in that business or any business for that matter because it is clear you don't care. I'd be worried the guy is dead or something. It was time to go get your head when you couldn't get up with him. If I have someone's deer I'm always reachable.

Yeah, I don't get it either. I mean, it would make it somewhat more bearable if I were getting updates on a regular basis, but seems to me like all these guys that are taking forever to do mounts are also extremely poor on communication.

I also own a small business and if I treated my customers that way, I would not be in business for much longer.

It's supply/demand - charge more b/c your mounts are in high demand and therefore end up taking in less mounts b/c of the higher price...problem solved. That or only take in the first XX number of deer that come in per season.
