Well opening morning was a cold one but did not disappoint. I had an idea where these birds might be as I saw their fresh set tracks headed into the hardwood bottom after the rain. This area has historically been a good roost are and in general an area turkey like to hang out. My buddy and I set up on a gas line near the hardwoods and waited on daylight.

I had a strong feeling they would not gobble on the roost due to the temp this morning. We did not hear a peep and I was starting to second guess our setup since we did hear a turkey. By this time it's light enough for them to be on the ground so I started doing a series of calls every 10 to 15 minutes. I just looked at my phone and it was 7:17 when I spotted a hen coming down a road headed our way. A few minutes later an 18 wheeler comes down the highway and his brakes make an god awful sound and a turkey shock gobbles down in the hardwoods. From that point on he would hammer every call I made. I watched the lead bird come 150 or so yards to the live bait standing in front of us. My buddy never saw them until they were in range of his gun. I was telling him the entire time don't you shoot them until we can both shoot. He was very patient and let them come to a point where I could get on one of them. By 7:30 they were both flopping.

They were a couple nice 2 yr olds. Mine was a double beard with 4" & 11 1/8" beards and 15/16" & 1" spurs and Weighed 19.3 pounds. My buddies had 10" beard and 7/8" spurs. Not sure of his birds weight because my scale batteries died. His felt a good bit heavier than mine though.
