It's been a long time it seems
Guess I never caught the bug for turkey hunting because of bass fishing until 5 years ago
I had always thought turkey hunters were crazy
They would say you will give up deer hunting if you ever go turkey hunting
The first time I ever went turkey hunting was with a partner from work
I was lease holder of 2000 acres in Greenville Al nobody turkey hunted in our club so I hooked up with Steve And went one Sat am we heard no gobbling and we're leaving around 930 when he hit the box call and bam he gobbled
The two year old was shot by Steve 5 min later and I never saw the turkey until floppingo our friends were ribbing him because he went to call for me (I didn't care ) and I truly still had no interest in turkey (this didn't do it for me)
They stayed after me to go back for that year and schedule didn't allow
This was around 2010
The next year an additional older gentleman from Georgiana and I went 3 times
On the first two hunts really uneventful I was about to write the buzzards off for good
The third hunt oh boy
We get there in a new spot around 530am in my mind I'm thinking why!!!
Then at 6-615 bam we heard a gobble then another and another and close
He says let's set up
They were hammering I was in a fog mentally but they were in front of me and I was ready and could see but then it went silent I figured they had left
I was facing 12 o'clock and I start feeling like bees are flying around my head and just felt disoriented until at my 5 o'clock bam(they hammered) how did they get here
I didn't see them and I'm stuck couldn't move etc two gobblers at 15 steps
The older gentlemen couldn't shoot either because I was between he and them
They must have figured out she wasn't there and wandered off
I was in shock somewhat scared of the closeness of this event they got me that day
In more than one way
I said to the man "knowing he saw them" did you see those jakes? He said in his own way those weren't no jakes
Anyway ever since that day I've been learning and once I started going on my own it's become an all out addiction
What's deer hunting? Or bass fishing?

Good luck guys

Good write up and good luck to you!

Why did you ask him if he saw the jakes?

I knew he had saw the turkeys
I saw them through my peripheral vision and had a good idea they were gd turkeys
I guess I was shook up, and didn't want to admit I had been had by gobblers

Get used to it. I've had my butt handed to me by a many a gobbler.
