Not surprised the dog growled or was aggressive, if u step out in front of my little beagles covered from head to toe in camo, they'll bark and growl also

Sorry but you are wrong, wrong, wrong. I used to think the exact same thing, give him a taste of my steel toe and that will be that.

I tried to break up a dog fight one time between a pit and a mutt. Each dog owner was trying to pull them apart. The pit had a non lethal hold on the mutt and WOULD NOT LET GO. Were it not for the owners the pit would have killed the mutt but he was not letting go of the grip that he did have. I started off punching the pit in the ribs, ...nothing. Next I started kicking the pit with my steel toed boots, ... nothing. Next I was stomping him in the head with everything I had, ... never even flinched! Finally I pulled out my pocket knife. My intention was to try and slip the blade in between his teeth anywhere I could find a spot, twist the blade and force his jaws open. But a bystander I guess thought I was about to end him and totally freaked out. I figured my attempt to help was done so I left them with it.

This event totally changed my view on pitbulls. I have seen a number of sweet, docile pits but I am convinced that regardless of training good or bad, every pit has a genetic switch which if triggered activates a killing machine. They are absolutely relentless.

I had a similar situation. One of my mountain curs got out and was wondering around when I came driving home one day. She knew she wasn't supposed to be out so she took off down the road toward home. She passed the home of the local meth heads and their pit came out and grabbed her. I got out of the truck and popped him in the top of the head with my fist hard enough that I figured I would easily knock him out. Nothing. No flinch, no nothing. I drew back to china and hit him in the head with the intent to kill him. Nothing. No flinch, no growl, no acknowledgement whatsoever of a blow that would have killed most men. I swung around and nailed him with a roundhouse kick to head - nothing.

I went to the truck and got a tire tool and hit him about 6 times as hard as I could and he let go of my bitch and went to staggering around. I carried her to the truck just in case and went on before he got his wits back about him.

It might not have killed him but I believe I would have at least put his eyes out with the 410.

Setting aside a shotgun full of turkey loads to draw a 9mm to shoot a dog is a ridiculous move, unless you just want pistol practice.

I rode around after killing my bird early Sunday morning and found some more birds and did some listening from the roads at different spots on several pieces of property I can hunt. I only saw 2 others hunting and they were both on land I could hunt too. Headed back home they were both parked together sitting on the tail gates shooting the bull so I stopped to join in. One was the president and his son and the other was a new guy I hadn't met yet. I get out and the first thing the new guys says after introductions was "he wears his carry gun too, I feel like I need to carry mine too". I told him it's not for when I'm in the woods as much as around the truck, opening gates, etc. A shotgun with turkey loads will dispatch any critter or human we may run across in these parts, by it isn't always in my hands or ready like that carry gun is. We have had a lot of dog and trouble with crack heads in the past. I've had to shoot on more than one occasion to keep from getting bit and don't intend to get bit if I can help it.

True enough...I find an extra measure of comfort having a pistol within ready reach, just in case...on several occasions, the sudden notice of the pistol changed the conversation from defiance to compliance.

If they try to bite me I would, but so far it's just been their dogs that want to bite me. Several years also the past president who has passed on now was coming down ot of a shooting house that had stairs like a house would up to the back door. He swung the door open at dark and up come a bulldog and down went a bulldog. He was shook up bad from it and always on guard after that. I don't think he ever walked in the dark after that situation. People use to fight them I guess and then drop them for dead, most are friendly but some had no fear. Dog sightings have went way down in the past 5-10 years and I hope they stay that way.

Worst for me was a few years back on the Sunday after the Nwtf show in Nashville. I had cameras and corn to put out on some tn farms and my then 7 month pregnant wife went with me and we were about 300 yards from the truck. We walked through some thick pines on a four wheeler trail and come out into a stand of hardwoods where i always run a camera before season. I guess the dogs were bedded in a dip 50 yards or so from us when they spotted us. All 3 come charging us growling barking like I owed them dinner and all I had was a 9 shot .22 revolver. I hollered loud first and walked at them, that didn't stop them so I started changing their minds. I carry a bigger gun at all times now. I felt under gunned and was. That rattled me, all I could think of is if I had been bow hunting or didn't have anything at all with me, I can climb a tree, my wife not so much.

I believe the last dog that growled at me was on Wheeler Refuge back in the 90s. After I came down in my climber I heard critters coming my way and nocked an arrow. 7 feral or otherwise stray dogs came running up and began to circle me. The lead bitch started growling and easing in on me. She finally came in an opening at about 10 yards and I ran a Thunderhead thru her from stem to stern. The other 6 hauled ass and I'm glad. One was a chow looking, big sucker.

I will not tolerate being growled at by a dog. If it belongs to another person and I'm on their turf, I won't go back. Otherwise it's gonna die.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

same story, different place.....

I carried my two daughters ,3 and 5, deer hunting at Allen Acres just outside of Moundville. I had a 25/06 upside down on my left shoulder, a sleeping bag over my shoulders, and holding hands with the two girls. A 30# cur dog came out into the field road we were walking, then came hard, low, and growling. I shed the sleeping bag, grabbed the gun, and stepped forward...killed the dog at ten steps er so. Dog #2 was already hard coming, killed him as he passed by the dead dog. Dog #3 was at twenty yards and lost his nerve, I shot as he turned, then shot him again.

Gun empty, three year old screaming, five year old said 'if I'd had my 22 it would of been a shootout"...then "here comes another one"....

I step back to the girls as #4 closes, bigger dog, 45# and zeroing on the still crying three year old. I'm trying to get a shell out of my inner jeans. The dog side steps me and grabs for the three year old as I slam him with the gun stock. He comes again, gets a boot and gun bbl. I feeel the brass shell..the dogs senses impending death and turns to flee....across a wide open corn field. I take my time loading and kill him at 80 yards running.

I have ONE shell left. We gather up and head to the truck. I hate to know what would of happened it we had been unarmed, or worse, some mother and her two girls going for a nature walk.

Incorrect. I've busted a deer and a 200 pound wild boar with my Glock 34 9mm this year. They both left good blood trails and were as dead as dead could be.
