Was setup on a logging Rd this morning. Had a bird gobbling real good. Then about 6:45 a yellow lab and two pit bulls cross the Rd. The pit bulls come back out and I step out to scare them off when the bigger dog growls and starts to charge. I raise my gun then they stop and go back the way they came. Taking extra gun in the morning for back up. Sort of hope they show back up. He will get a face full next time.

It would have never made past the growl.

I'm on blood thinner and didn't want shoot risking not killing him and making him mad. If he would've kept coming then I would've shot.

Unless that dog is Kujo he ain't gonna keep coming after you spray his ass with lead. I dont care what breed it is. If you do t want to shoot and scare off the bird, then walk up to him and if he ain't run off by then kick him in the head or ribs and you won't have to worry bout him anymore.

Had a Doberman do that to me about 10 years ago. 3.5 inch #5s will make a mess of a Doberman' head at 5 yards!!

Sorry but you are wrong, wrong, wrong. I used to think the exact same thing, give him a taste of my steel toe and that will be that.

I tried to break up a dog fight one time between a pit and a mutt. Each dog owner was trying to pull them apart. The pit had a non lethal hold on the mutt and WOULD NOT LET GO. Were it not for the owners the pit would have killed the mutt but he was not letting go of the grip that he did have. I started off punching the pit in the ribs, ...nothing. Next I started kicking the pit with my steel toed boots, ... nothing. Next I was stomping him in the head with everything I had, ... never even flinched! Finally I pulled out my pocket knife. My intention was to try and slip the blade in between his teeth anywhere I could find a spot, twist the blade and force his jaws open. But a bystander I guess thought I was about to end him and totally freaked out. I figured my attempt to help was done so I left them with it.

This event totally changed my view on pitbulls. I have seen a number of sweet, docile pits but I am convinced that regardless of training good or bad, every pit has a genetic switch which if triggered activates a killing machine. They are absolutely relentless.

The pitbull probably just wanted to play, and if it was aggressive is probably wasnt a pit anyway.

Yes I own a pitbull ....and yes it is a good dog ...will it bite someone Yes again. Do I have to put cameras in my yard to make sure someone isn't trying to rob me No.
But in your situation pit or not ....I would have shot as well

Totally different situation. If the nmutt was the size of a man and gave pitbull the ole steel toe you wouldn't have had to pull him off mutts neck. Like I said if you start after the dog like you are about to kick his ass he is gonna tuck and run 99% of the time. They can pick up on body language pretty quick.

A pit bull bit my brother when we were kids and dragged him around...so I have a hatred towards them like no other dogs...he woulda been blasted at first sight

you should have not given him a second chance, he may get you next time.
