I found this interesting outdoor man on the web years ago and found he had some interesting opinions on saws, guns, hunting and all kinds of stuff.

He calls himself coug2wolfs.

Here's a link to his webpage with what he has to say about firewood and chainsaws:

TJS Bearden (coug2wolfs) - firewood webpage

Shop around on his website. There's lot's of good stuff about hunting, fishing, guns, dogs, Native Americans, and wildlife.

He seems like a yankee I could learn to like. thumbup

You'll see lot's of good pictures like this one on his website:

This is what I have. I cleaned up all of our tornado damage with it. I worked that thing harder in one week than I will the rest of my life. It is a GREAT saw.

Talking with a friend last week who owns a tree service and he said Husky got bought out by sears and the saws are now made with cheap material. He used to use Huskies exclusively on his large models and he said he won't even purchase one now because of all the problems they are now having with new ones. My other buddy bought one in the past year and it has stayed in the shop as well. Looks like I'll stay with Stihl.

This. Great mid size saw. Also have a MS 180 which is great for small jobs but a little small for lots of firewood.

My Makita was built by Dolmar. It cuts as well as my 039 Stihl

Still is hard to best. You can find them second hand for a good price.

Chainsaws were made for women cause they will sure kill a man? My poulan has never let me down in 6 years I've had it. If they crank and cut wood for 10 hours what more do you want!!! If I have to use a chainsaw more than 10 hours a year I'm gonna find something else to do.

Ive been a Husky fan, but replaced mine with a Stihl. Whatever you buy, use 89 octane and keep it as far away from gas with ethanol as you can. That stuff will screw up anything with a carburetor

No more saws for me until Jul/Aug. Ended last winter with about 5 cords, had a dump truck load of 14ft logs (alder) to cut up this past year. Haven't turned the heat on a single time this year

I recently had to borrow a little bigger saw to work on a tree in my yard. my buddy loaned me his husky that he bought about 15 years ago. I was amazed. I had no idea a chain saw could or would cut that fast.

Love my stihl 261 and 460. Both are some mean machines.

Those are the pro models. Great saws.

Nothing wrong with Husqvarna either. Their XP saws are also pro models.

Have a Stihl farm boss, HAD a stihl M 180 until someone in Selma decided they needed it more than I did. Used to have Husky. The Stihls are great machines in my experience. The little 180 is a joy to use for mature folks (old). I'll be picking up another one tomorrow. For $225 I don't think you can find a better small saw.

Best by far saw for cutting firewood I have ever used was a Husky with a bow instead of a bar. I think it was called a firewood bow, was a longer loop bow. Saves your back, but I don't know if you can still buy a bow..

Two different models of Husky and Stihl saws. The Husky saws with a green fuel cap are home owner grade. Gray caps are professional grade. How to distinguish the Stihl? I dunno. If you buy, buy from an authorized dealer. You'll pay more initially but less in the long run.

Stihl saws can ONLY be bought through dealers. They do not sell them through "box" stores.

I had two of the Stihl 029 Wood Boss saws that were the best I ever owned. Someone stole one of them out of my garage. The other one I ran for over 25 years until it finally died.

I then bought a Stihl MS280 and loaned it to a neighbor when it was 3 months old and he used it one day and burnt it up. Ran it with straight gas I guess.

Just a couple of years ago I bought a Husqvarna 460 Rancher brandy new. Thought I'd try a Husky for a change. I literally hate that saw. Leaks bar oil all over the place, is heavy and I just don't like it.

One of these days I am going to sell it and go buy me another Stihl.

I have a Husky 455 Rancher that I like pretty well, I just fill the oil & gas when I'm through using it & it doesn't leak. It cuts as well as any saw I've ever used & better than most.
